Hello, be gentle with me!!

I am in the process of buying a 1080P HD Freesat TV (Panasonic 32inch), my question is, can i simply hook it up to my exisiting SKy Box and receive the ful lHD channels that are free - i do not have a Sky+ HD box just a standard one, so can i simply connect sky box to the TV and receive HD channels as well as the 6 mix and movies that i am subscribing to?

Don't connect to Sky box - a standard Sky box (or a Sky+ box) can't give you high definition television. Connect your TV directly to your satellite dish and you'll be able to watch the Freesat HD channels. If you don't already have a quad LNB then you are going to have to decide which to connect to satellite dish - Sky box or TV. If you already have a quad, you need to run another cable from dish to TV.

You will have to connect the sky box over scart to get your existing sky SD package. The direct lnb connection above will give you BBC HD, ITV HD and in non-freesat mode Luxe HD using the TV's HD freesat tuner and many of the SD FTA channels that your sky box already receives

OK, my Sky Box is about 5 years old, it is a Grundig 286535, cant see dish prperly but only 1 LNB (i think) - so is it best to just connect existing cable that is in the back of the Sky Box directly into TV, that way i receive the (limited) Freesat HD channels - BBC, ITV??? complete novice but i love all things technical

you can swap the sat coax depending on what you want to watch but make sure the equipment is turned off before plugging and unplugging.

Or fit a manual lnb switch to avoid all that disconnecting/connecting

Best to swap the single lnb for a quad and add the extra cable though. Simple job if the dish is accessible

Just wanted to confirm, i can buy a (Panasonic, LG, or now Sony) Freesat TV, connect it to my Sky (Non HD, Non Subscription) box/lead and i will receive Freesat channels and any of the HD channels -BBC1, BBC4, ITV, Luxe for now - and wil see them in HD and iaint paying a penny -would anyone recommend waiting for Freeview HD rather than Freesat??? Not only a novice but one who cannot make his mind up!!!

Apart from you only get a part time BBC HD channel, and an occasional programme on ITV HD - although it has increased recently, even if mostly upscaled.

There is no BBC4 HD, and Luxe HD isn't on Freesat (but can be added in non-Freesat mode).
