Yes, you may think I sound weird, but it's true. Here is some evidence:

Darkness formed in the late 90's, SP formed in the late 80's.

Both bands released the albums that got them big in the third year of the following decade.

The second single off their albums that got them big were the most popular.

Both are blatantly influenced by 70's metal.

Both guitarists from each band are lead guitarists.

Both bands were said to change rock music.

Discuss.

Technically, their second single from the album was Get Your Hands Off My Woman, cos I Believe in a Thing called Love was first released in 2002, but it was re-released last year

Don't see how The Darkness copying all that has gone before can be seen to be changing rock music myself.

A few co-incidencies don't mean that Spinal Tap 2 can even be fit to lick the boots of the Smashing Pumpkins.

"Both guitarists from each band are lead guitarists." - Who'd have thought that then!

The Darkness have a few years left in them. Hopefully they won't split up.

I think you're mixing up your rocks and metals.... The Darkness and Smashing Pumpkins (who I like a lot) are certainly not metal!

The darkness are a good band but not a patch on smashing pumpkins. Go out and buy 'siamese dream'' and mellon collie and the infinte sadness'' which are two really good albums. The darkness album is still worth a listen though.
