There was a good banter about editing on Chris Moyles yesterday. They were having a great laugh about the way the word "dong is edited from Ludacris Area Code in the line"im the thrilla in Manila, the d**g in Hong Kong".They had ppl sending in some similiar ones which went a bit like
The big banana in Botswana The willy in Chile The slappa in Aya Napa And others i forget now.If they hadnt banned ppl sending them in once they got bored i shouldve sent in "The big balls in Senegals"

Isn't it 'schlong in Hong Kong' I have the track here on my comp, I'll have a listen............Yes it is schlong, not dong!!!!
By the way, I love that Ludacris track and I just bought the album and I highly recommend it. Did you hear Moyles today messing about on that Usher-U Remind Me track. Usher swears (says sh*t) at the end uncut and Moyles used to keep playing the swearword at the end over and over again until he got told to stop doing it by the bosses. Anyway, he was messing arond pretending to cut swearwords that were not really there so all u could hear was 'beep' right though the track where he was supposedly cutting the words. When he got to the real swearword he was acting like he was pre-occupied forgetting the job at hand and left the real swearword in!!!! If you don't listen to Moyles you have to give it a listen 3-6pm evey weekday - Radio 1. Its great mate. |

Its strange, they leave almost everything in now on the radio, well at least on Radio 1 anyway. They only tend to cut out swearing. OK there are exceptions. But for me the most un-edited songs more recently on the radio are: Eminem's Stan - "That's my girlfrend screaming in the trunk but I didn't slit her throat, I just tied her up" Or Usher - U Remind Me - "All the shit she put me through" MOP - Ante Up - "Gun butt that fool" "You think you're cute ho'?" "Run your ass down" I could go on!!! Also, how come in Teenage Dirtbag on the TV dick was left on, but on the radio it is changed to gick? Its usually the other way round. |

They have much stricter rules on TV, there is no way they could play that on TV. They also shouldn't have any references to drugs, violence and sex on daytime TV. Radio 1 is self regulating, it has no watchdogs to answer to, plus it's audience is mostly over 16s. That's why they can be a bit more edgy. When someone swears on the phone on Radio 1, they wouldn't have a formal kind of apology like on TV, usually they cut them off because they swore. That's what Moyles does anyway, he doesn't really believe in apologising for the word shit because its ot that offernsive these days.

If you ever watch MTV base at 1AM, where they play loads of songs with swearing in, they still play the clean versions! How many kids will be watching at 1AM?

i can't stand radio edits myself. i dont have a problem with swearing in music, it's just that it really annoys me when a song comes on the radio and there is gaps all the way through it. if a songs contains swearing they shouldnt release it as a single anyway
oh and the amount of songs that i hear on radio 1 which goes "motherf....." quite frankly takes the piss |

It would seem that if you are a factual talk station that you can get away with using some words that wouldn't be allowed on popular stations. I am amazed at some of the language that is used on Radio 4, especially on the Today program. A few weeks ago John Humpries used the phrase "It's pi55ing down", and I've heard the occasional b4stard, 5hit, cr4p and bl00dy on various programs throughout the day. Moyles would be proud.

This is because msot music videos are edited before they are sent to the music channels and programming, and don't have unedited video versions.

My view on all of this censoring business is if you don't like it then don't watch it/listen to it. I do feel that Eminem's recent success was largely due to his tendancy to swear, and that pisses me off a bit. I've heard his album and most of it is a huge stinking pile of poo, but I absolutely love Stan. Most teenagers only listen to music with swearing to rebel, hence why they don't like Steps, Hearsay et al. PlayUK used to claim they played Rock DJ by Robbie 100% uncut wheras most channels simply stop the vid halfway through, but what they did was continue the soundtrack but play chunks of the vid twice to extend it! Why bother censoring it at all? It's not as if little kids are gonna start trying to rip their skin off, and if they are scared by it they simply won't watch it again.
Shifting from TV to radio, here in Manchester there's a talkshow on Key 103 hosted by James Stannage at 10PM-2AM. He has some very contraversial views, and tends to swear quite a lot when provoked (usually by some idiot phoning up then being a complete arsehole) but never get beeped out. It makes a change to hear sensible censoring because on the daytime trailers the swearing is beeped out. |

Ppl dont listen to swear filled music to rebel! They like it cos of the lyrics and the sound or whatever. And they hate shite like Steps cos theyre songs are filled with brutal lyrics,no good singing voices and crap music! Its nothing to do with rebellion!I might like one rap with umpteen thousand swears but thats cos its a good song with good lyrics and rhyming and so on,whereas i might think the next rap played with as much sweareing is a load of crap cos of poor lyrics, music sound etc.

What does everyone have against cencoring? I wouldnt like little kids to hear this stuff and pick it up, and neither would any caring parent! Even if nothing was cencored and parents tried to stop their children from hearing it they would probabally still hear it. If you are so dead aginst cencoring here's my answer- sleep during the day and only wake up at night- when noting is cencored. And being 15 myself I can garantee that songs with swearing in are only popular cos of the swearing- everyone says the songs are crap.

Strange goings on on the Tim Westwood Rap Show
On the show tonight they edited the word asses from Let Me Blow Your Mind.BBC radar technology obviously showed the kiddies all went to bed after it-cos within a few mins it started a 3 or 4 in a row Missy Elliot swear-a-thon songs
