Weekly recommended alcohol units in other countries.
Hello.
Does anyone know what the weekly recommended alcohol units are in other countries such as Spain, France etc? My understanding is that the Uk limits were suggested at a meeting , 'pulled out of the air' and are not based on hard medical facts.

I think most countries are similar to the UK. The old W.H.O. limits were 28 units for men and 21 for women which is what I try to aim for.
In terms of damage to the liver, the risk begins when regular weekly consumption exceeds about 30 units, said Dr Sheron. But for other conditions, like cancer, the risk starts at zero and goes up proportionately with the amount of alcohol is consumed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8172982.stm |

I could imagine that if you said to a Frenchman that he could only drink a half glass of red wine a day he would rather throw it in your face
