I'm treating a couple of visiting friends on Saturday for a great british food experience, only London venues.

Was recommended Butlers Wharf Chop House, any others?

Thanks.

Konstam definitely worth a shot http://www.konstam.co.uk/index.html, they try to source most of their food within the area served by the tube.

How much are you looking at spending per head?

Well it was supposed to be around £40-50/head, but got a call from her & said they are 7 in the group!! She is not aware I'm planning to treat her & poss another of her colleague for an English lunch.

Thing is she's my sister's best friend who helped her a lot during my sis's cancer treatment so it's a way for me to say thank you.

She's in UK together with team of auditors for nearly 2 weeks. And it's her first time in London.

Any ideas ..given the no. of people I have to take to lunch now???

Does it have to be a proper restaurant? You can get decent English food in many pubs (as long as you go to a nice area!) reasonably priced too.

pie and mash or fish and chips, how much more traditional do you want ?

Actually those pies at the shop that they set up on the apprentice looked good.

The Wapping Project is nice if your in that neck-of-the-woods good food, reasonable prices and a terrific venue in an old power station.

I have to give a nod to Inside in Greenwich as it's excellent (if a bit pricey) and it's my local.

There's Roules just off the Strand if you want a really British feel. havn't been there in years myself so can't tell you if it's still any good.

Porters in London is terrific and at a central location. It's about £25-£30 a head and the portions are huge. Their website looks pretty good with lots of info on it.

Here it is: http://www.porters.uk.com/

If budget is a concern with such a large group, maybe you could do a traditional afternoon tea instead? Scones with clotted cream etc...

I wonder where they went.

I would've suggested Roast in Borough Market.

I would have fired them on the spot for thinking Christopher Columbus was English.
