Do you mean with the best voices or just overall as an artist?

Joni Mitchell Aimee Mann Dusty Springfield Lisa Gerrard Madeleine Peyroux Maria Callas Dawn Upshaw Mama Cass Sharon Robinson Oleta Adams Norah Jones They're my personal choices but could probably name dozens who are as good or better singers but who don't particularly do it for me. |

I get that Mariah, Whitney etc. are technically great vocalists but I personally can't stand to listen to that kind of power-singing.. My fave female vocalist is probably Chan Marshall aka. Cat Power. I absolutely adore her voice.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJfQXS1hKDo

Personally, I go for the less "perfect" voice. Mine would have to be Skin from Skunk Anansie. Power with attitude.
In fact, I'd also add Björk in there. I loooove her voice. In the running would also be Bat For Lashes, but she's quite new. |

Maybe not technically the best female singers of all time (the first two would be up there though) - these are just a few of my personal favourites:
Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins) Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) Traceyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) Juanita Stein (Howling Bells) Erin Welton (Autumn's Grey Solace) Emily Haines Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) Nancy Sinatra |

Alison Moyet and Annie Lennox. Two of the best Britain has produced. I notice a lot of selections are current artists. Either DS members are mostly youngsters or i'm just getting old.

Totally agree with your two selections, would also add Dusty Springfield to that.
