No one else has mentioned girls comics. I remember a couple my sister used to get... 'Mandy', Jackie - though that was more photo-stories. There was one that smoethimes had freaky horror / scary stories in it but I can't remember what it was called.
Misty?

Oh boy, reading all the above brings back many fun memories - painful one's too as like many I got rid of my collections when I discovered girls

Collections/comics I bought/had:

Cor!! - all.
Monster Fun - all.
Shiver and Shake - all.
Whizzer and Chips - all.
Topper.
Beezer.
Roy of the Rovers - all.
Tiger.
Action - all. Superb comic. Loved Hook Jaw
Starlord.
2000AD - #1- 150 or so.

I also had most of the annuals for the above from 1966ish onward.

Was also a big fan of Marvel UK.

Avengers - #1 to about #125 where it had merged with other Marvel Uk titles like Master of Kung Fu and Savage Sword of Conan before it got cancelled.

Titans - all.
Super Spiderman.
Captain America.
The Fabulous X-Men all.
The Superheroes - all. Silver Surfer fan.
Planet of the Apes - all. My favourite comic.
Dracula Lives - all.
Savage Sword of Conan.
Mighty World of Marvel.
and others...

Got rid of them all.

Pushing 50 these days and have a serious retro kick going on and been buying up any of the above I can find in old book and charity shops. Latest purchase was several old Cor annuals and Buster comics.

Cool thread. Thanks for the memories.

Spellbound and Misty were both girls' comics, both very alternative to the rest out there. Neither lasted long

In fact, I've noticed that they're reissuing a one-off special shortly for Misty - on the 16th september.http://mistycomic.co.uk/Home.html

And this was spellbound, home of Supercats.

I bet I still have that pendant somewhere!

I used to buy the usual ones :
Cor, Sparky, Dandy, Topper, Beezer, Beano, Whizzer and Chips, 2000A.D.,
What I used to do is this - I used to read the "one-page" stories first, then go back and read the "two-page" stories, and it felt like I had twice as many comics !
I used to read Action - until the likes of Mary Whitehouse got hold of it and they removed all the violence !
I only read one comic now - VIZ.
I call it a magazine, but the wife calls it a comic !

I read a lot of Marvel UK comics from the mid 80s to mid 90s. Mainly Transformers UK (possibly the finest comic ever produced in the UK) but that spread to Thundercats UK, Dragons Claws, Deaths Head and even the odd issue of The Real Ghostbusters. I used to lap up the Marvel UK comics. 20 years later and I've still got practically all of them (somewhere).

During my early university years I moved onto the US comics. Marvel UK had all but died in 1992 so by the mid 90s it was US comics or nothing. I actively collected Fantastic Four, then X-Men, then Spiderman. Eventually I stopped. Most of the comics were onto the "It had to happen.. Superhero 1 vs Superhero 2" phase of their lives and I got bored.
well I started off with Buster, occasionally getting Whopee & Wow, Whizzer & Chips (basically any IPC Kings Reach title)

then I got Secret Wars UK printing, before graduating to the comics listed above (spookily the exact same ones)

totally agree about Transformers UK

When I was a little kid, the X-Men were my favorite. During pre-teens it was Spawn. As a teenager I got more into Alan Moore and other more adult-oriented books...Vertigo stuff, etc. However, I still enjoyed some Marvel here and there. The Grant Morrison X-Men comics were pretty cool and Joe Kelly's Deadpool was fantastic. I really liked Garth Ennis' Punisher too.

Apart from Marvel, I read the Century 21 comics, right through to Countdown. Anyone else remember the amazing artworks of Frank Bellamy and Mike Noble?

lol, you've got good taste. David Sutherland just drew his 2000th Bash Street strip in last week's issue, and you can download that strip from www.beanotown.com

Saturday was comic day in our house and my nan was the comic supplier.

I started with Bunty (who remembers the Four Marys?).

Then I moved onto Jackie (which people still remember) and Blue Jeans (not so popular, largely forgotten, but better I thought.)

Then I switched to My Guy and there was one other very similar to it but its title has been lost in the old brain now...and its driving me potty now. It could be Oh Boy. Help me out please.

And you men, don't deny all knowledge. Bet you read your sister's!

Tammy which became Tammy and Misty
It used to cost 10p

I loved my Tammy comics, in fact I caught a prog on BBC4 a while back which mentioned Tammy and Misty amongst many other comics and it was absolutely lovely. Really brought back some memories whilst also shocking me with the look back at the way the stories were written for girls in those days.

I have faint memories of the gymnast in another comic, seem to remember all girls wanted to be ballerinas at the time - never liked Blue Jeans or Look In which came along a little later.

Marvel:

The Uncanny X-Men, from #129 and then was lucky/rich enough to buy all 'new' X-men issues from #94 (I think?)

Also collected - New Mutants, X-factor, Power Pack, Alpha Flight and had the orginal Wolverine, Illyana & Wolverine, Elektra and Secret Wars I Limted series to name a few.

Also had lots of issues of Avengers, FF, Marvel Team Up, Nova, as well as UK Captain Britain; amd loads of issues with X-men in them like Wolverine's in The Hulk for example.

Looking back, I'd regard my main comics as Fantastic and Terrific, two very similar publications that generally covered super-hero territory such as the (New) Avengers, aka Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Prince Namor the Sub-mariner, et al. Anyone else get these? Every issue had a super-hero poster on the back (which I collected) and I remember some pretty dodgy ones, like Plantman and Ultimo, although I had a thing for the Enchantress, whose sole 'super power' seemed to be that she was absolutely cracking.

In addition, I got Beano and Dandy (naturally ), Smash, Wham (occasionally), Whizzer & Chips (but only after they merged), Cor!! and I particularly remember being 'into' Thunder when it first appeared.

My gran, bless her, who we visited most weekends and who I stayed with during the holidays, would buy me the 'broadsheets' - Topper and Beezer - together with Striker.

Memories . . .

I've been trying to get issues on ebay but it's expensive so I was well pleased to find the whole lot on a single dvd .
