A work colleague is due an upgrade with 02 quite soon. They are wondering if the retention deals are quite good or is it a case "leave if you want, we don't care".

Anybody upgraded recently?

i was getting v.little from o2 when i called yesterday.

i was on a £20 per month deal (normally £35). they offered me nothing.
went through to get a pac code but got it switched to the 1month at a time deal (150mins / 300 text) for £10 a month.

i will be trying them again as well as looking around for a deal through e2save or CPW.

Go straight through to retentions as they have more authority to do something for you.

It all depends on how much they value you. All the networks have a scoring system based on different things e.g. paying on time, making calls/texts outside of allowance (e.g. to international numbers), how much data you consume etc etc.

Your colleague simply needs to ring up and try at the time and see what they will do for him and what he can get elsewhere and find the best deal for him out of it all.

I rang yesterday as i noticed the N86 has finally appeared on their site.

Best offer (retentions) they would do was £30 a month tariff (18 months) and a one off charge for the phone of almost £50.
My loyalty discount from last year of £10 a month would also dissapear!

Methinks I will be looking elsewhere for a deal

o2 are pretty much not doing retentions now, if you phone and ask for your pac code they just send you it! the only discount they will offer is £5 discount/a free bolt on on top of the standard tariff. i am a customer who spends a LOT on their contract, and when i came to upgrade the best i could wangle was nokia e71 free on £35 p/m tarriff (600 min, 500 txt) and free unlimited web and text. and even then they're trying to remove one of my bolt ons! i'd have moved to another provider if my credit rating wasn't completely awful

Compared to my last upgrade 02 were pretty much giving me anything i wanted like

£35 talk plan discounted to £20 for the 18 months
Free Internet
Free Weekend calls
Free 02 Broadband for 12 months
Free Nokia N95 with 18 months free Sat Nav included
An extra 500 texts

This time round i can just about get a £5 off a talk plan above £35 and the phone i want a Sony Ericssion C903 they still want to charge me for it

I have been looking around and either T Mobile or Three seem to be able to do better. Which i have said to 02 but again dont seem too bothered if i stay or go which i find suprising given the credit crunch.

Think the only difference is that this time round my useage has gone lower.

Yeh o2 refused to give a good deal when I upgraded in June. I am paying £25 for 500mins on a 12 Month. They just talk like robots I asked them what are the tariffs I can switch to that offers me better they said something like well for £35 you get 400mins blah blah etc and I just laughed its as if they could not realise that I was getting a better deal by staying with what I had.

I suggest you try upgrading online. The phone upgrade selection was better online (for free/less) than they offered me on the phone.

I'm an online customer anyway so i have to do it online/phone, but at this rate i will be looking to leave next week as thats when my contract enters its final month, since my talk plan is so low i can afford to buy it out and leave there n then.

Question is who do i go with next....

I'd recomend Vodafone.

I went to them from O2 about 3 months ago to take advantage of their summer roaming promotion (on a SIM only 30 day contract) and was gonna move back to O2 last week.
After I called to get my PAC their retentions dept got in touch and offered me a really good deal to stay:
SE C905, 300 mins, Unlimited texts (18 month contract) £15 a month.

I was really surprised as I'd not been with them long.
When I left Orange after 15 years, they made absolutely no attempt to keep me, and neither did O2 after only 3 months with them.

Also, having been with these 3 networks, IMO Vodafone's is by far the best. The signal has been rock solid wherever I've been so far.

If they offered that deal with me i'd jump ship!! as that beats any deal 02 have offered by miles, and three were the closest £21 mix n match 500 with the C903.

I will look into Vodafone and maybe call up see what they can offer a new customer.

Well according to Vodafone's website the deal I've got should be £30 on an 18 month contract, so I'm not sure they'd offer it to a new customer.

Maybe you could move to them SIM only for a few months like I did (you'd get 300 mins & unlimited texts anyway for £15) and then ask what they could offer you.
I just told retentions about a deal I'd seen on mobiles.co.uk and they beat it.

Just be careful if you want to port your number to Vodafone though - you need to give them your PAC when you open your account. They aren't as accommodating as other networks if you want to do it afterwards.

Oh, and despite all the horror stories... I love my C905!

I'm currently on 02 sim only 300mins and 600 text for £15, and even then the Vodafone one is still better value! im just waiting to go on my lunch then i will give them a call see what they can do.

Call O2 and ask for Craig

I was given a good retention with O2 but decided I
wanted a better phone so returned it . So had to ring
every day to see if it arrived and checked package every time, when it had arrived suddenly I was told . " YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT PACKAGE"
Tariff doubled in price for same phone, mins etc
(Tocca lite 900mins ,unl.text ,unl. browsing, unl. o2-o2, Home BB)

Ten minutes later had a nice phone and a much better &
cheaper package with Orange

Got put through to Craig when I queried my final bill
and he refunded the whole amount as he was
disgusted in the way I was treated. Result !!!!
