What were your opinions regarding...Verity Keys?
Same as yesterday, really. We're slowly going through all the finalists to have ever appeared on X Factor with these 'What were your opinions re:...' threads. I expect it will pick up once we get past season one and cover the contestants people care about.
Again, I can't comment because I didn't watch S1, but what are/were your thoughts on Verity Keys? Name: Verity Keys Category: Over 25s Mentor: Simon Cowell Performances: Week 1 - 'I Will Always Love You', by Dolly Parton Week 2 - 'Wind Beneath My Wings', by Bette Midler |

I remember her, she was a bit hated on this forum.
I quite liked her though. I thought her version of 'Wind Beneath My Wings' was so beautiful. It wasn't a vocal masterpiece, but it was amazing. But vocally she probably was one of the weakest finalists ever. They wouldn't pick someone like her now. She was pretty old and looked old as well, she seemed really fragile. She was such a nice person though. I hope whatever she's doing now, she's happy. |

I felt sorry for her really - and I think Simon did too which is why she got to the live shows.
I don't think she should've got the live shows to be honest, her voice simply wasn't strong enough - especially with the songs she was given. I remember her week 1 performance was by far the worst of the pack, yet Voices with Soul and Roberta were put into the bottom 2 by the public. Thankfully she didn't last long, as I say she seemed like a nice woman who had a lot of bad luck, but I don't think she should've made it though to as far as she did |

I wasn't a member here then so I don't remeber her being hated but I think she was completely out of her depth in the live shows and shouldn't have been put through (although she was as bad as the boy/girl act - was that the same series?)

She was very nice, and I'm glad she got that opportunity and experience at the expense of another annoying wannabe

Very nice lady but Maria Lawson was actually sent home at her expense therefore it was completley out of her depth!

Maria was sent home over the Conways...will people ever forget
![]() Verity was an Olivia Newton-John lookalike. She used to sing with her husband and was offered a record deal when she was younger but turned it down because her husband didn't want her to go solo. Years later they were divorced and she regretted not taking the offer. Simon felt she deserved a second chance. I don't know why, she had an average voice and it was unlikely she would ever win. There was a man called LLoyd with a better voice but Simon picked Verity over him

I think if Maria got through on the first series, she could have potentially walked it. Or done a lot better.
The 2nd series was a huge improvment on the 1st series in lots of ways. |

Verity had a bit of a sob story, failed marriage and the whole 'last chance' thing IIRC. Nice lady but not that great. I was shocked Simon didn't choose Maria, I think she could easily have won the 1st series.

I liked Verity. Her voice wasn't strong (strong as in powerful) but it had a very pleasing quality, probably too subtle for most X Factor fans, who seem to prefer belters. She was never going to win, but she was charming and very attractive, and not the worst finalist by a long chalk.

Nice woman, pleasant voice.
But she was never going to be the next big pop star, was she? |
