Each year we hear the same dull song screeched, yodelled and downright murdered by deluded wannabees. For the sake of fairness, I think each post should contain only one song

I'll kick off with Mariah Carey's "Hero"

The list could go on and on though........

Without You has been sang by someone in the live shows every year (Cassie, Brenda, Leona, Beverley, Alexandra).

Mercy has been sung by Hannah last year in the audition, bootcamp and possibly JH. This year that Duffy lokk-a-like sang it.

Angels. Never rated the song in the first place, but it seems all the audition renditions are terrible...

Not so much auditions, but I'd ban Lady Marmalade, You Raise Me Up, I Have Nothing from the live shows.

Agree with most of the above. Easier just to say any song ever recorded by Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, or Celine Dion.

I wouldn't ban songs by these artists, as then we'd probably never have another female winner again, and lets face it, they are the only good winners we've actually had. But Mariah, Whitney and Celine have big catalogues, they could easily pick a song that isn't IWALY, I Have Nothing, Hero, Without You or All By Myself.

That one's invariably sung by someone who believes they can sing but can't and gets shot down brutally by Simon.

Ah, but I don't agree that those were the only good winners we've actually had, and I don't see that it would mean we would never have another female winner. If it meant we would never have that kind of female winner again, that would be just fine by me.

Especially when done in an affected Leona Lewis style with loads of trills.
I'm also sick of 'Fields of Barley' - Nadine Coyle was the only one who ever did it well.

And 'Natural Woman' - I'm sick of that too.

But even female contestants who aren't 'that kind' have sang those sort of songs. Cassie, Hope, Conway Sisters etc. all sang Diva Ballads, but weren't from the same mold as Alexandra and Leona.

I think its a lot harder for women on these shows. If you avoid those big ballads people assume you can't pull them off, but if you do actually sing them, you're flogged for being predictable.

Do you think so? Certainly not by me. I see it as a breath of fresh air if they avoid those songs. Even if some people did make that assumption in the past, I'm pretty sure a lot of people must now be as heartily sick of these songs/singers as I am and would welcome a more original approach.

Hero and I Will Always Love You, most of the time those two songs are murdered.

The song is called 'Fields of Gold' not 'Fields of Barley'
The Eva Cassidy version of Over The Rainbow is heartbreaking

Pretty much every Eva recording is brilliant.

I'd go with XF winner singles, particularly 'Against All Odds'. Ew.

I would have preferred Leona to sing OTR soft all the way through a la Eva myself
