Do you think we should have a FAQ thread, possibly stickied? Covering things such as tickets, phone voting, band, music choices etc

I am going to say ostentatious. If I dislike any celeb this year, it will be because they are ostentatious. If they dance badly, I will say they should not have danced so ostentatiously.

... I mean the word smug seemed to be applied indiscriminately to anything bad last year, so I reckon we can just choose a criticism and stick with it!

I bet Alesha is an ostentatious judge.

Yeah, I like it. I think we should dive into the thesaurus and weekly come up with the best word - at least then we're providing a service by allowing people to widen their vocabulary too

I suppose it would be too much for the celebs to come up with some new 'lines' this year.

I expect it will be 'amazing' and 'I just love to dance'

Love it . I think we should all have our own special phrases or adjectives, and see how many people we can get to repeat them. The more obscure the better. Bonus points if the phrase or adjective is re-used in the title of a thread. I think I will choose to use the adjective "self-aggrandising"

"I always think we'll be in the Dance-Off"
"No-one's ever safe"

It would help if every couple didn't have to point that out...

I'm favouring meretricious:

1. alluring by a show of flashy or vulgar attractions; tawdry.
2. based on pretense, deception, or insincerity.

Don't tell me that there's some kind of weird initiation thing that nobody has told me about yet.

I'm going to have to re-think ostentatious then... it's not ostentatious enough! I am going for: Magniloquent

–adjective
speaking or expressed in a lofty or grandiose style; pompous; bombastic; boastful.
Origin:
1650–60; back formation from L magniloquentia elevated language, equiv. to magniloqu(us) speaking grandly (magni- magni- + loqu(ī) to speak + -us adj. suffix) + -entia -ence

I am imagining the following exchange:

Random FM: I hate <random celeb>... he/she is so smug.
Me: <random other celeb> is far more magniloquent.
Random FM:

Maybe we should start a thread of stylish ways to express your dislike

Genius... can I suggest rule number one, inspired by Godwin's law:

If anyone resorts to describing something as smug, the thread is finished and whoever used the word has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress.

Beat ya to it SR! I've got the Oxford English dictionary in my lap

Instead of saying a performance was S***, might I suggest the word 'stercoraceous' It means 'consisting of or resembling dung' ie....

Brendan and Lisa's showdance last year was stercoraceous

...this way by about Week 3 we'll have completly removed that word from the SCD DS Forums forever (or at least until the end of the series )

Fantastic... any more like that would be gratefully received!
