To any of you who have auditioned and/or progressed through the process;

Is your participation subject to agreeing to reveal nothing publicly about the experience, in any way?
If so, do these terms step up a gear when you reach boot camp, for example?

Is it also true that the final 10 have to agree to do 'nothing' for 12 months after the final, except for X Factor managed activities?

I cannot be 100% but I am pretty sure that is the case as that way Cowell can sc**w them over with cheap labour without signing them to a label & to stop other labels from signing them until the Winner & Runner up have got their singles / albums released.

But then again did Laura White, make the top 10 ?

I think so, darkjedimaster, regarding the final 10.
I'm interested to hear from actual contestants, because presumably talking about the terms themselves wouldn't be a breach of them.
ie anybody could apply and reach a point where terms are presented to them. Whether or not they then choose to agree to them is presumably another matter.

I should have also added;
what consequences are you threatened with if you flout the terms? Just ejection from the contest, or maybe legal action?

When you move forward through each audition there's another disclaimer to sign but obviously you're so excited you just sign anything! After the initial audition you do get given a bit of paper and have the rest of the day to read through it.

Things may be different on AI, but as far as I know if you reach Hollywood week you're bascially under contract for a full year, although you can get out of it.

Michael Johns asked to be released as soon as the tour was over, and subsequently was - released an album independently. Joshua from the same year, slept in a car, completely messed up final audition in HW, released an album without permission and was being threatened with legal action by TPTB at AI.
