Its been posted many times e.g ( http://www.digitalspy.com/forums/sho...max+sd+quality ) and I experience the same issues.

From changing from Sky HD to the Humax Foxsat HD PVR, the SD quality is far poorer. I have tried all settings and cannot get a picture as good as when I plug in the Sky box.

With much debate on this subject, it seems it may be the tuners are different quality. Is there a resolve in this issue?

Someone on the example thread suggested a different postcode?

The scaler in the Humax is poorer than the Sky HD boxes, and the Humax seems designed to give a 'soft' picture as well.

I ave a TF9 postcode and have just tried the EX2 postcode as suggested in the example thread and the difference is remarkable??

WHats the logic in this? Any other suggested postcodes which give a good reception?

That postcode will give you ITV1 West Country, the satellite feed of which is supplying the ITV1 terrestial feed into that region until DSO. As such, it is broadcasting at a higher resolution & bitrate than other ITV regions.

So, I hope it was ITV1 that was"remarkable", and not other channels, otherwise it is Emperor's New Clothes.

After DSO in the West Country, the opinion is that it will go back to ITV crappovision res & bitrates.

If you have got a good HDTV or AV Amp, put the HDR V-Format onto "Original", and let the TV/Amp do the scaling. I get a very good PQ doing this, and properly calibrating each input for either SD or HD appropriately.

It's only a temporary fix I am afraid, The satellite signal for ITV West Country is currently being used as a feed for the South West terrestrial transmitters (Up to the Autumn) anmd as a result is 704 x 576 pixels and a decent bit rare. I'm hoping ITV HD will be a full time channel by then using scaled SD when required. Some one suggested meridian's the same but have not tried this out.

I was on Meridian before i switched to W/C, and it was not high res when i used it.

I think White-Knight suggested Yorkshire was good quality.

I did mean just ITV. Why channels cant produce this strength all the time is a shame. I have tried the 'Original' setting and although I would concider my TV good, I get a better picture when its on '1080i'

You don't need to do that, you can view all the available ITV regions in non-freesat mode.

Presume that would be ITV1 Yorks West on 10891 H 2200 5/6. It's hard to tell at the moment there's an old Heartbeat on.

In his 2 posts, he definitely refers to South Yorkshire, but you're right, on Lyngsat, there is only the one you refer to.
