Sky Sports - Yesterday
10:00 to 19:00 - The Ashes: 856,000 (7.2%)
* peak: 1.9m

Source: MediaWeek

Extremely disappointing if you ask me.
Thanks. Absolute justification that The Ashes need to be listed - a quarter of the live audience, and with the 2m from Five highlights half the audience there was four years ago.

It just feels so much less significant this time around too - though the Murdoch press would have you think otherwise.

D.M.N from the old ratings thread :

Haven't seen an official announcement, but apparently The Krypton Factor has been recommisioned.

Yes, it's on SRO audiences, although it's being recorded at London Studios this time.

Wasn't it at Granada last time ? Which I would have thought useful for the out of London production quota.

And there were more people watching Songs Of Praise than the cricket at the moment of England's victory.

Perhaps they were expecting BBC1 to interrupt SOP with a newsflash from The Oval.

Interesting bit from BBC Press Office: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre...t/24/ww2.shtml

New daytime programmes form part of BBC's commemoration of 70th anniversary of start of Second World War

New period drama for the autumn, Land Girls, starring Nathaniel Parker (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries) and Christine Bottomley (Hope Springs), will be stripped across one week at 5.15pm as a one-off special event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War.
A drama stripped across the 5.15pm slot? Hmm... has that been done before?

So, slowly move the drama content into daytime and the daytime content into primetime, is that the idea?

Oddly on the BBC programme information section, it says that it is due to air at 2.15pm, so either one of them is wrong or they are gonna repeat it.

BTW it says 2.15 at http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pro...mon_land_girls

A shame to see how few saw the conclusion of The Ashes. This summers been not a pinch on the cricket-fever of '05 - I know my interest has sadly waned over the last few years.

Still, money just matters more in this day and age

Otherwise, pretty unspectacular Sunday night. Rivers has been a very good series for BBC One, prospering from mediocre competition and pulling very healthy numbers. Countryfile seems in good health too, and J&J is doing decently.

Have we had the numbers for the F1 yet?

The press release that quotes 5.15 has today's date on it. A late change of mind? Or maybe it will be two transmissions. After all, they used to show Neighbours at lunchtime and teatime.

The BBC had complaints about the recent drama series Moving On being wasted in daytime so they gave it a quick repeat in a 22.35 slot. Maybe some bright viewer suggested they should have repeated it at 5.15 and the BBC's taken up the idea for the new series. (It can't possibly have been the scheduler's idea.)

Here's hoping the experiment is a success. Then they can repeat any future daytime drama in this slot (there's a planned 10-part second series of Moving On) and it means they can give Weakest Link an occassional break without having to resort to Cash In The bloody Attic.

Ah! A new thread!
BBC One
17:30 - Songs of Praise:

Sky Sports 1
10:00 - The Ashes: 856k (7.2%)
* peak: 1.92m @ 17:45
Will Sky be wanting exclusive rights to Songs of Praise now?

Nope.

I expect under 4 million though due to warm weather, and it being the most boring race on the calendar. I'd be pleasantly surprised if it is over 4m up against The X Factor repeat and The Ashes live.

(very strange logic by MG to publish the Qualifying rating, but not the Race rating)

No they are not. Corrie's rating was set at an earlier date, therefore that comes first.

Besides, does it actually matter?

Corrie got 11.456m, while EE got 11.457m. So, jojo does technically have a point . It matters to some hardcore soap/EE fans !

Oh.

By the way, could we try and update the above table every week up until the end of the year as I'll suspect we'll have quite a few new entries. Does anyone know the equivalent table at this time last year? I suspect the top 20 average would be lower because of the not-so-high BGT figures.

They really need to do something about Valencia. On paper it sounds amazing - traditional spanish architecture, the beach, the pools, the docks, the crowds. It's just not happening.

Firstly from the track the whole thing looks like an industrial estate, secondly there is no overtaking and third the stands are half empty, despite the number of seats being reduced.

It has no atmosphere because its all closed off and weird.

Apparently GP2 was a great race though and to their credit they've now done two races on a street circuit without a safety car, which is remarkable. Unfortunately the race was so dull we could have done with a few just to add a little excitement.

Last year's top 10 until the same stage of the year was:

BARB update: upto and including (10/08/08)
01 - 13.88m - BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT FINAL RESULT (31/05/08) - ITV1
02 - 13.02m - CORONATION STREET (18/01/08) - ITV1
03 - 12.08m - DANCING ON ICE (16/03/08) - ITV1
04 - 11.73m - EASTENDERS (24/03/08) - BBC1
05 - 10.57m - DOCTOR WHO (05/07/08) - BBC1
06 - 10.05m - UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Man Utd v Chelsea (21/05/08) - ITV1
07 - 9.29m - THE APPRENTICE (11/06/08) - BBC1
08 - 9.24m - NEW TRICKS (07/07/08) - BBC1
09 - 9.18m - MATCH OF THE DAY LIVE: England v Switzerland (06/02/08) - BBC1
10 - 8.90m - LEWIS (24/02/08) - ITV1

Average for that was 10.79m. Six programmes above the 10 million mark. It doesn't include shows twice by the way (like BGT).

This year's top 10 (with just the one BGT in the list) averages 11.00m, massively boosted by that phenominal figure. It currently has fewer programmes above 10m mark compared to last year, with 5.

I think we can safely say Britains Got Talent will be the number 1 show this year ?

Don't think those soap ratings will be surpassed, unless anyone knows of anything big coming up.

The Strictly Come Dancing final results show took 12.97m last year.

If we are to compare this year's top 10 with last years, removing duplicates (BGT):

Code:
.................2008 vs 2009
Soaps............2 vs 2
Entertainment....3 vs 5
Drama............3 vs 3
Sport............2 vs 0
Not many differences, apart from the fact that there are no sporting events in the top 10, and I can't see any entering the top 10 before the year is out.

I don't think it will end up in the top 10 of the year, but I think England v Croatia world cup qualifier on Wednesday 9th September will end up the highest sports rating of the year.

The last qualifier against minnows Andorra got 7.98m which was pretty good. Last time England played Croatia, it averaged 11.19m although it was a huge decider on the BBC.
