Strictly Come Dancing is still performing really well, even if it is being beaten by The X Factor. Merlin and The Cube are both offering decent support and ITV have TV Burp returning to keep up the good performances. I bet BBC1 can't wait for the return of that as Hole in the Wall is a bit low at the moment - I wonder whether ITV'll try and stop Harry commenting on the programme?

BTW, The Radio Times site has Criminal Justice aired across the week commencing 5th October. People probably know this already but thought I'd post again anyway.

Solid ratings for pretty much everything last night. Strictly and XF doing OK, with good performances from their support acts.

Merlin is holding out OK - I hope it sustains its 5m+ It'll keep being pushed earlier because of the marathon SCD - but hopefully as the nights draw in earlier, it'll make things a little easier.

Match of the Day seemed very high last night. Over 4 million and over 30%. Is it performing better this season, or is it just me?

I think it'll just hit 10m tonight, but the big numbers will come for the live shows.”

I agree. It was silly splitting the top 50 performances over the last half of yesterday's and tonight's. They could have made much more out of the group performances especially with, as you say, all the backstage shenanigans which we saw nothing of.

It was a good show tonight though - much improved on last night's.

Would BARB viewers with SKY in Scotland who wanted to watch Doc Martin not turn over to channel 993 ITV London?

I am not sure of the % of Scottish tv viewers with SKY but it must be 30% or so... so the % of viewers unable to see ITV network output is likely in single digits.

Having thought about this would 993 actually show on BARB ratings as a multi channel audience figure?

Surely ITV London (ch 993) would just be added into the normal ITV1 figures?

amazing figures there. Especially compared to the 7.6m that SCD got on Friday when there was no clash.

I can easily see the X Factor result shows well over 11m when they start in a couple of weeks.

Amazing for The X Factor, bad for Doc Martin. I'm not sure how you can classify the Doc Martin figure as amazing, 1 million down on last series.

Do remember Doc Martin is not being shown in Scotland...
Xtra Factor below 1m on ITV2 last night.

The 'Scotland difference' wouldn't account for 1 million though, would it?

But last series you didn't have Doc Martin going up against BBC1's third highest rated drama series of the year. That is surely going to have some kind of affect on its ratings.

The X Factor did really well to increase its audience from last week, as boot camp usually rates lower than audition shows. Good night for Five from 9pm onwards with Dirty Dancing, a very popular movie.

Looking at the overnights in full, it appears Five dented both BBC1 and ITV1 from 9pm onwards then.

Excellent for TXF- and indeed ITV generally last night. Quite surprised at the numbers Family Fortunes is getting, not too shabby for that timeslot.

Dirty Dancing did great numbers for Five. Looks like the heavy competition at 9pm dented the first hour, but then there was a huge surge towards the end. A 20% share for Five is absolutely massive. Even The Mentalist premiere peaked lower at 17%.

I think the Antiques Roadshow held up really against The X Factor!

It bodes well for tonight. 2m non-typical Five viewers exposed to advertising for FlashForward, whether it be through a trailer during a break, or even a DOG during the film itself. Timing couldn't have been better...

I suppose it did well considering the intense competition in the Sunday 9pm slot. I just think that on a quieter night (maybe Thursday ?) it could have got 3-4m average

There is no doubt in my mind that BGT has re-energised XF. For an ever growing number getting hooked on the 6 months the two shows cover is the tv highlight of the year. There is almost a lust for it.SCD has peaked imo, I would be a bit surprised if any of the shows hit 10 million this year-apart from the final which will have a free run. But the BBC has alienated some viewers whereas ITV and the people behind XF and BGT know just how to promote the brand.
As this decade draws to an end, the BBC has deservedly won a sackful of awards for producing top class programmes over a huge range of genres, but the biggest influence has been Simon Cowell. Good or bad really is a matter of opinion.

The Singapore Grand Prix did well. This from MG:

Quote:
“An average of 4.3 million viewers, a 42% share of the audience, tuned in to watch the night race between 12.10pm and 3.15pm, with a peak of 5.4 million and 47% in the quarter hour from 2.45pm as Lewis Hamilton came in first.”

I think that's very unfair. And in any context those ratings are NOT bad.

It did indeed. The % share is good as well.

At the time of that comment, I didn't know Five's ratings, so it was only after Five's ratings were known that it was obvious that Five dented BBC One and ITV1.
