What on earth has happened to Desperate Housewives?

I said No. We dont want more vapid daytime encroaching even further into primetime.

Maybe ITV will sell it to the Beeb for a complete granny fest on Sundays ”

Will you stop saying that BBC1's Sunday skews old. It doesn't skew old, it skews posh.

And GeorgeS, make up your effing mind. You have a good at the BBC if they compete, you have a go at them if they offer an alternative....

Are you referring to the content or its place in the schedule?

Incidentally how does X Factor manage to get its peak at 8.40? Where do these extra people come from? What programmes end at 8.35? And where do they go to at 8.50? And why do these people not watch the whole programme?

Its ratings...

I'm not sure anyone noted it, but Match of the Day Live on Saturday featuring Newcastle vs Ipswich at 17:05 on BBC Two had 2.2m (14%). Not sure if BBC will be pleased with the figure...

Obviously. In a ratings thread. Duh!

I'm sorry, I'm not with it as far as US ratings are concerned. I tend to scroll past those bits.

Yes, the US ratings don't really interest me. Should they have their own thread ?

I think they do belong here, they're still ratings at the end of the day (and have been alot more interesting than UK ratings over the last couple of weeks) But as you say, you can just scroll past them (as i do with the sport and soap ratings and talk)

Its still a fairly good number for DH, it is low for the show itself, but still a decent enough audience. The animation block seems to have done really well too, i wonder if that could persuade UK broadcasters to try out some new animated shows over here?

Even though I not very interested in US ratings, I agree with the bold comment.

I don't see why. This is a ratings thread after all. I couldn't give two figs about the F1 discussions that occur every so often but I just scroll past it and let everyone get on with it.

FlashForward is trending very highly on Twitter. That's not necessarily a good indication of ratings (Krod Mandoon trended similarly highly, for instance, as did the most recent Peep Show, and neither did particularly well ratings-wise) but it does at least suggest a healthy level of interest. I can't remember a show on Five trending before.

As for US ratings, I don't post on this thread much but I do read every day and I find them really interesting. I'm really grateful to C14E for covering them so well. In general, I think it's great that the various areas of ratings have 'specialists'. It's all valuable stuff that helps to elevate this thread and makes it as strong and consistently informative as it is. As others have said, people can always scroll past the stuff they're not so interested in.

I'm grateful to C14E too, I read them every day.

They are more interesting than the UK ratings just now.

The match was all over by the 35th minute though - I'd be interested if you could find the peak. I wonder whether it'd be over half time with the Bobby Robson memorial taking place then. Thanks in advance if anyone can.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

ITV would love to have 'bad' ratings of 7.2m each night I'm sure. I think Doc Martin will pick up more viewers next week now Waking the Dead is finished. The X Factor did brilliantly - a 12.2m peak at the Bootcamp stage???

BBC1 held up extremely well, and it shows what complementary scheduling can do for channels. Five had a boost from Dirty Dancing - is it the first airing it's had since Swayzee's death?

As for American ratings: I feel they should be here. They are ratings and people are interested them. As others have said, if you're not interested then scroll past. The varied information and viewpoints on this thread is what makes it great.

Although, of course, BBC1 got more viewers and a higher share with a competitve schedule on a Saturday than with the complimentary schedule on the Sunday.

Meanwhile the BBC are heavily promoting the new natural history series, Life. So far it's the only post Criminal Justice programme to be trailed.

Very true, though would the share be even higher if they'd scheduled complimentary?

What night will that take, I wonder. With all the 9pm offerings finishing in time for Criminal Justice, they have plenty of scope.

I'd put it on Thursday's. Tuesday is traditionally a low rating 9pm night (which is strange considering the Holby City lead in), while Wednesday hasn't got a strong structure to it (though Waterloo Road should be coming back soon). Thursday has been reasonably solid for BBC1 throughout, and it may get viewers against The Bill.

What sort of ratings did Criminal Justice do across the week last time ? Might have the potential to win every 9pm slot across the week ?

Not sure how it would do against Pride of Britain Awards, does that rate particularly well ?

I think Criminal Justice got around 5-5.5m Every day last year, and i can see an increase in audience this year as it was so greatly recieved last time. I haven't actually seen a trailer for it yet though. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it is as super as last time!

Overnights for Criminal Justice last year were: Mon- 5.5m (26%), Tue- 4.8m (22%), Wed- 5.0m (23%), 4.6m (20%), 4.5m (21%)

First episode started late (21:35) due to an epic Andy Murray tennis match which got 8.6m (37%).

Pride of Britain Awards has nearly always rated over 5m. Last year's averaged 5.5m (24%). The year before was as high as 6.7m.

I reckon Criminal Justice will rate around 5-5.5m next week. The last series was exceptional.

Criminal Justice Overnights
June 30th: 5.5m (26%) - started late due to Wimbledon
July 1st: 4.8m (22%)
July 2nd: 5.0m (23%)
July 3rd: 4.6m (20.3%)
July 4th: 4.5m (21.1%)

EDIT: Beaten by rzt. There are too many parts to skim through on this thread.

Oooh, thanks for that Rzt, so CJ was quite a bit lower than i thought, hopfully it can obtain 5m for the whole run this series.

CJ figures for series 1 (overnights/officials)

MON 5.33 / 5.62
TUE 4.76 / 4.67*
WED 4.97 / 5.35
THU 4.63 / 5.06
FRI 4.45 / 5.10

This was in the summer: June 30th - July 4th

*I believe BBC Scotland didn't screen it every night at 9. The Tuesday evening may have been at 10.35 to fit in their drama series River City (River City at 8, Holby City at 9) or football. That'll be why its officials are lower than its overnights.

Last years POB awards (Wed 1st Oct) had 5.52 overnights (it beat Silent Witness on 5.45m) and 5.87m officials (it lost to Silent Witness on 5.89m)

I see, before I post this, that rzt and fudd have posted figures, but I've typed it now so....

Iaindb posted a few days ago that he read in the Mirror that Life would air on Mondays.

I didn't expect it to air on that day as drama usually goes there. But I think it could be a good idea and get high ratings. Does make you wonder where/if Spooks will air?! It could go on Thursdays, which means the Bill will have difficult competition again!

Hi,
Does anyone know the ratings for Waking the Dead for yesterday - apologies I am not sure how long it takes for ratings to become known, is it more than 24 hours?

I wonder what ITV have lined up on Monday's after Blue Murder has finished? I'm guessing another crime drama as they seem to work well. Is Law and Order: London due to return soon?

Life on Monday's - I dismissed Monday and Friday's as they are drama/comedy days but it could work. Might be hurt by a small lead in and a well liked drama on ITV1 though. It'll certainly appeal to the non-crime drama audience.
