Not quite on the same level as Barbra Streisand but infinitely more entertaining.

ITV are in talks with RTE to co-produce a second series of 'Single-Handed'. The first series averaged 3.6m (17%) in the overnights: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/i...006525.article

BBC Two has commisioned a new panel show called 'The Bubble', whcih will air next year. Three celebrity contestants are asked to separate true news stories from fakes after spending four days locked away in a country house with no phone, TV or internet access: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/b...006482.article

Although Single-Handed didn't set the ratings alight earlier this year, I suppose it was much cheaper for ITV compared to its other drama.

How will the Pride of Britain Awards do tonight??

It's in the 8pm time-slot and is up against Traffic Cops on BBC One.

I'm thinking 6 - 8 million, maybe higher

It has been heavily advertised and mentioned in high-rating daytime shows so that is why I think it will do well.

BBC2 does Celebrity Big Brother...

I think The Bubble sounds quite good.

They play similar games on the Big Brother contestants in the US on the Early show or sometimes during the show - get them to guess true or false on things that have happened while they have been locked away. Always interesting to see their reactions.

The latest BARB ratings give Merlin just short of 6m for its second epiosde - 5.94m a gain of 900,000 on its overnight.

Just thought I'd point that out for Merlin fans cos that's another programme with a big time shift audience

I don't think it's going to do too spectacularly, certainly not above 2m. Also a rather lengthy running time, mainly thanks to OFCOM letting them get an extra ad break, so an 11.20pm end time might put off viewers. It's a show I'm taping tonight, but whether I'll get round to watching is another question.

Unbelievably stupid too for Generation Kill to be scheduled after it - that too wouldn't get above 2m, but C4 haven't got much that does in a 10pm slot and even if it didn't rate well, it would give C4 a high profile show in a high profile slot, and certainly do better than 11.20pm.

Purely to get an extra ad break I'm sure. Agree though - far too long. Wonder though if the finalists are doing another single this year, so that might be the excuse.

I've been very encouraged by the performance of Merlin. Its shares in its early slot are good, and the timeshift is certainly very impressive. Hopefully as the darker nights draw in it'll be able to crack the 6m in the officials.

It confirms that the Formula 1: Brazillian Grand Prix Qualifying is on BBC One, however, Casualty is moved to Sunday (with nothing on the Saturday), and Merlin doesn't appear to be no where.

There's nothing that suggests that Casualty is a two parter that weekend. Here's the current confirmed schedule:

Saturday 17th October
13:00 - Gymnastics – World Championships
16:30 - Final Score
17:05 - BBC News
17:20 - Formula 1: The Brazillian Grand Prix Qualifying
19:15 - Strictly Come Dancing
21:25 - Lottery [presumably]
21:35 -

Sunday 18th October
16:00 - Formula 1: The Brazillian Grand Prix
19:10 - Countryfile
20:10 - Casualty (note - the date on BBC PI is also in red - meaning it has been moved from the Saturday)
21:00 - Emma
”

Casualty's move to Sunday is clearly because if the Grand Prix programme doesn't finish till ten past (and all the previous programmes have finished at ten past, quarter past or twenty past), then they haven't got room for 3 hour-long programmes before the Ten O'Clock News, so sent for 50 minute long Casualty to help the maths.

But which is clumsier - moving Casualty to Sunday or screening the news at 10.10 and having all their Sunday peak programmes out of synch with ITV1?

Don't forget they'll be padding those adverts out so they'll probably have about 8 minutes of ads at the end of the show and it'll probably end up only being about 50 minutes in total length!

Ah, OK.

Expecting a big X Factor peak that night then... besides, it's appears they are pulling out all the stops:

Isn't it interesting when both BBC1 and ITV1 lose the plot together? Saying that, I can't see The X Factor being hurt by another 15 minutes:

19.45 Introduction/Introducing the judges/acts
19.48 Phone Recap
19.51 Talk to the Judges
19.53 Adverts
19.56 What the acts think/want
19.59 *Guest Number One*
20.04 Talk to the Guest
20.06 Phone Recap
20.09 Break
20.12 Phone Recap
20.15 The week in the X Factor House
20.20 Behind the scenes
20.25 Phone Recap
20.27 Break
20.30 Phone Recap
20.33 *Guest Number Two*
20.38 Talk to the Guest/Lines Closed
20.41 Saving 8 of the final 11
20.44 Break
20.47 Saving ninth act
20.48 Advice from the mentors
20.49 *Bottom 2 - First act*
20.52 *Bottom 2 - Second act*
20.55 Judge's vote
20.57 End

I guess Formula One took priority over the weekend schedule for BBC1. It'll be interested to see how Casualty holds up against The X Factor - aroudn the 4m mark I'm guessing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only way ITV are going to gain any foothold over Tuesday nights is to have a soap hour from 8pm-9pm and try and wrestle back the initative from Holby City. At the moment there's no stability to the night, and some documentaries that may succeed with a better lead in struggle.

BBC1 have such a strong line up it is difficult for any otehr channel to make much of an impact, though CSI is always consitent for Five. Good to see Criminal Justice slightly up.

I saw one in Manchester tonight - it's brilliant although I don't think The X Factor needs this kind of promotion.

I was going to say that I think they should call out the results throughout the show. So in each part, we could find out 1 or 2 acts who are safe (a bit like American idol). But then I remembered that the voting lines might not close until near the end of the show, so that new procedure wouldn't be able to happen.

I guess we'll have to see how it pans out. It might not be as bad as first thought.

Considering Strictly got through an hour a week of results last year (and this was without ad breaks) I think it should be ok. Of course, they could shut the lines straight away at 8pm and call them out throughout, but I think you're right - the cashflow that'll lose will override that idea!

Sep 2009 - 18.0% (Sep 2008 - 18.3%) Change = Down 1.6%

Multichannel monthly shares:

Jan 2009 - 40.1% (Jan 2008 - 37.3%) Change = Up 7.5%
Feb 2009 - 39.5% (Feb 2008 - 37.8%) Change = Up 4.5%

Sep 2009 - 42.1% (Sep 2008 - 40.0%) Change = Up 5.3%

Average Multichannel change = Up 7.4%

Observations:

1) I think this is the first month for a very long time when BBC1 and ITV1 have both performed strongly, suggesting that the "big hitter" programmes in the new season of programming have made a real impact in stemming what has appeared to be a never ending decline for the main two terrestrial channels.

2) But at the same time, multichannel still showed solid growth albeit a bit down on the average for the year.

3) So who lost out? The big loser was Channel 4 which was down 13.5% (Sep 2009 - 6.4%, Sep 2008 - 7.4%). Five was down 9.8% (Sep 2009 - 4.6%, Sep 2008 - 5.1%).

I wonder how True Blood faired tonight. It's had a lot of promotion leading up to it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit much for some. I'm not prudish in the slightest, far from it, but even I thought 'bloody hell' in places.

Some C4 overnights through. Including +1:

20:00- Ruth Watson: Hotel Rescue: 1.71m
21:00- The Secret Millionaire: 1.90m
22:00- True Blood: 1.77m

Blimey, is that Secret Millionaire's lowest audience ever?! Looking at ITV1's all day share, it suggests that Pride of Britain must have done well.

Edit: Overnights: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/new...6-million.html

Pride of Britain Awards got 6m.

This from a broadcast article about Paul O'Grady not moving to Sky 1.

O’Grady’s show has had a mixed run in ratings. On Monday it was fourth in the 5pm slot, trailing BBC2’s Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour, but on Tuesday it came second to ITV1’s Britain’s Best Dish.

We don't see 5pm ratings much, but is Britains Best Dish now leading the way ? With Weakest Link in third place ?

Seems to be a very competitive timeslot these days.

Pride of Britain improving on last year then.

Pride of Britain 2008 5.5m (24%)
Pride of Britain 2009 6.02m (26.6%)

CJ holding steady on 4.36m (19.1%). Wonder if The Bill can make any impression on it tonight ?
