Well why does any broadcaster want anything to do well? Because it's in their interests... to justify the License fee in the BBC's case.
They moved an episode of Question Time to primetime earlier in the year which was a bad mistake and angered viewers who tuned in at the normal time. They could get away with doing that though because all the major parties were complicit in the expenses scandal at the time... moving last night's to a better slot would have looked like they were giving the BNP more or special coverage as it was always going to be all about them.
