EastEnders has a pretty consistent audience, so the viewing figures will be high regardless - people aren't suddenly going to switch off and say "I'm not watching this again until the 4th September". The purpose of the dated trailer is to draw in extra viewers to what should be a major storyline, as happened with the campaign for the "Archie & Peggy's wedding/Dannielle" episode earlier this year.

The production schedule has moved up though so they will now be making episodes further ahead of time. Its easy to change the references to Bank Holiday Monday in the script.

Corrie producers would have known well in advance that there would be no episodes on the Friday of the Super Cup and presumably would have been told at the same time when ITV were planning to reschedule them so they could write the scripts accordingly.

The 2 episodes are not really "missing" episodes, they're episodes in hand because the contract will be for a specific number of episodes per year.

STV's replacement for Wuthering Heights on Sunday actually did better than the rest of the network!

STV got 365,000 (19.8%) for Sirens. That's a higher share than the network share of 19%.

Framed rated well for BBC1, certainly more than I expected. Wuthering Heights got the same rating as Sunday and I think ITV will be unhappy with its ratings generally. On a brighter note, at least it didn't lose any viewers from the first episode.

Some low soap ratings, particularly EastEnders.

Interesting.

Good rating for Framed. I really think ITV will be disappointed that Wuthering Heights didn't do well. It also seems like the war between ITV and STV is about to step up, apparently ITV1 +1 will launch one month today.

EDIT: Scrap that, appears not to be available in Scotland.

Shocked Framed did get so high, but it wasn't too bad in all. Also Glad to see Would I Lie To You getting a great rating, i know its half an hour earlier than normal, but hopfully some of those will come back next week

Good for Framed considering the very awkward 8.30pm slot with Corrie up against the first half hour. A good idea to try and give Would I Lie to You? some exposure too though they might have been hoping for a little more. I had no idea the Edinburgh Military Tatoo had so many fans. The bagpipes tend to get on my wick after a couple of minutes.

Wuthering Heights did decently to keep the viewers it had, but its still pretty dissappointing given the time and money that went into it.

It would be interesting to see the ratings for the first half-hour compared to the last hour. Anyone? Rzt? D.M.N?

Broadcast says: "While Coronation Street dented the figures to start, at 9pm, the drama had picked up an extra million viewers, winning the hour."

As a rough estimation, about 4m watched between 20:30-21:00., with 5m for the 9pm hour. That would give a 4.7m average.

Using some calculations in OpenOffice.org Calc based on this comment by Broadcast:

Quote:
“BBC1’s single-part drama Framed led the way for the 9pm hour, averaging 4.7m (19.8%) for the 90 minutes from 8.30pm. While Coronation Street dented the figures to start, at 9pm, the drama had picked up an extra million viewers, winning the hour.”

Doing some calculations in Calc to get a 4.7m average, I've worked out the first half an hour from 20:30 to 21:00 to average about 4 million, with the 21:00 to 22:00 hour averaging 5 million, which would get a 4.7 million average (or to be more precise 4.67 million).

EDIT: ...And rzt beat me to it!

Cheers.

I just don't understand those peoplewho watch half a drama - or two-thirds in this case. That's like buying a novel and reading it from the start of chapter 4. (Although, obviously, I understand if it's the first half that they watch cos they'll be switching off cos they think it's rubbish.)

So basically, disappointing for all the main soaps?

No official confirmination, but apparently Beat the Star has been axed by ITV.

I've heard that, too. Apparently it cost a whopping £1million per episode! The Cube costs less than half of that (£450k) but is still seen as being expensive by entertainment standards (Colour of Money only cost £200k), so no wonder it's gone, as it was only getting 3-4m.

You'd think if C4 can offer enough money to tempt Graham Norton, it would also be enough money to retain Paul O'Grady.

£1million for Beat The Star! But it looked so cheap and tacky!

Framed did really well last night but that figure is disappointing for Wuthering Heights. Will be interesting to see if it picks up a significant amount of viewers in the officials. I recorded both episodes and will be watching them later in the week.

I couldn't believe it when I read it (at Bother's Bar). I don't know where it all went, as it was a real tacky turd of a gameshow. Good riddance to it (All Star Mr and Mrs next hopefully ).

I've always found it strange that Channel 4 plead poverty to the Government but can have major golden handcuff deals with the likes of Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal, Alan Carr etc although I imagine that when these deals come up for renewal that Channel 4 will ask for a pay cut.
