Can't really be bothered wading through all the SCD vs. TXF stuff. They're in their slots, so let's just get on with it.
What I'm more interested in is tonight's Watchdog! What a mess...or should I say Dog's Dinner? The show just felt extremely cheap and looks like it has been extended beyond it's means. They should have kept the format - and especailly the studio - realtively similar to the old Nicky Campbell format. There was so much random stuff in it tonight. Loads of people standing in some balcony thing. Standing up to interview Duncan Bannatyne. Putting baby prams on a bucking bronco. Gaby Logan!!! There needs to be a major re-think or this new format is going to tank in the ratings - Anne Robinson or not. The old format was getting 5 million against corrie, why in the name of god did they change it and that song was just cringeworthy. |

I agree - I enjoyed that last year, I'm really disappointed it's been missed out this time round.
![]() I would've aired It Takes Two on Friday 18th as well. Build up some atmosphere, talk to the couples just before they take to the stage. They're going to have one on the 25th anyway, so why not one on the 18th? I have an sneaky suspicion that the new friday one show hour long edition well have an special preview coverage with their new star reporter Arlene Phillips .

Won't be as good as a dedicated programme. How's it going to do jammed between an article on World War II and a report on village fetes?

Andrew Lloyd Webber is to stay at the BBC and the wizard of oz show will now start later than orginally planned. So thats one less headache for Jay Hunt.

The press centre is already building it up as the 100th show, so no doubt they'll go all out on the trailers and publicity etc.
Maybe it's time for a tabloid judges bust-up. ![]() http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view...II-SACK-SHOCK/

Ant and Dec have been banned from going on Jonathon Ross after BBC banned Barbara Windsor from featuring in Piers Morgan interview according to The Sun. They mention how relationship between channels is at an all time low and the newspaper is fully blaming the BBC and wants the Trust to get involved in the X Factor/SCD dispute.

The format was certainly clunky - odd attempts at humour and pointless celebrity guests - it needs some changing but its nothing that can't be fixed over time. |

The Bill posted 4.1m, as expected, with NT repeats starting (but that still got 5.3m!)

Not ratings related but it seems that Mary Portas has been poached by Channel 4 after a bidding war and she is meant to be receiving £500,000 over two years.
It is funny that a lot of stars from the various channels like Heston Blumenthal, Ruth Watson and now Mary Portas defect to Channel 4 but it annoys me that considering the BBC are under fire for talent pay, Channel 4 who are meant to be pleading poverty are able to sign up new talent without any fuss. |

The return of Watchdog made a very good start up against tough competition and it seemed to dent the other terrestrials as it was up about 2m on what it had been getting in that slot!
As expected for the 9pm slot with New Tricks repeats rating strongly, because they were airing on the back of a new series (a technique which works very well for a few weeks after), but I can see the gap widening now with The Bill continuing to increase and New Tricks continuing to decrease. Very poor nights for both CH4 and FIVE. |

When I came on and see four pages of ratings discussion, I thought most of it would be on last night - instead only four posts talk about last night!
Thursday 10th September 2009 BBC One 13:45 - Doctors: 1.48m (26.4%) 19:30 - EastEnders: 7.61m (39.3%) 20:00 - Watchdog: 4.47m (20.9%) * slot average: 4.3m (19.7%) 21:00 - New Tricks: 5.32m (24.5%) *repeat BBC Two 20:00 - The Frankincense Trail: 2.04m (9.5%) * slot average: 2.6m (11.7%) 21:00 - The Love of Money: 1.46m (6.7%) ITV1 19:00 - Emmerdale: 5.81m (32.9%) 19:30 - Countrywise: 3.7m (19%) 20:00 - Emmerdale: 6.51m (31.7%) * Note: DS have got the Emmerdale ratings the wrong way around 20:30 - Coronation Street: 7.74m (35.1%) 21:00 - The Bill: 4.05m (18.7%) Channel 4 18:30 - Hollyoaks: 1.21m (7.5%) * +1: 140,000 (0.8%) 20:00 - How Clean Is Your House?: 1.26m (6.1%) * +1: 216,000 (1.1%) 20:30 - Dolce Vito - Dream Restaurant: 690,000 (3.1%) * +1: 66,000 (0.3%) 21:00 - Alone In The: 1.46m (6.8%) 22:00 - Without a Trace: 1.15m (7.5%) Five 17:30 - Neighbours: 1.22m (10.1%) 18:00 - Home and Away: 1.03m (7.1%) 20:00 - Megastructures: 702,000 (3.3%) 21:00 - FILM: Out Of Reach: 624,000 (3.1%) 22:40 - The Sexy Ads Show: 600,000 (5%) BBC Three 20:00 - Off the Hook: 144,000 (0.8%) * slot average: 298,000 (1.5%) 22:00 - EastEnders: 805,000 (4.7%) 22:30 - Lunch Monkeys: 403,000 (3.2%) * slot average: 410,000 (2.8%) ITV2 21:00 - What Katie Did Next: 1.27m (6.3%) 22:00 - Katy Brand's Big Ass Show: 402,000 (2.3%) * +1: 100,000 (1.1%) * slot average: 362,000 (2%) 22:30 - Coronation Street: 310,000 (2.4%) ITV3 19:55 - The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes: 238,000 (1.2%) 21:00 - Piers Morgan on Monte Carlo: 193,000 (1%) ITV4 22:00 - FILM: Space Cowboys: 341,000 (3.6%) E4 19:00 - Hollyoaks: 530,000 (3.3%) * +1: 137,000 (0.7%) Fiver 18:30 - Home and Away: 493,000 (3.4%) 19:00 - Neighbours: 248,000 (1.5%) Source: DS, Broadcast, MG, ITV Media Watchdog - 15-Minute Breakdown 8.00 - 4.17m (20.7%) 8.15 - 4.39m (20.9%) 8.30 - 4.47m (20.5%) 8.45 - 4.85m (21.7%) Thanks to MattJ for the breakdown. Good night for BBC One with Watchdog and the New Tricks repeat doing well. Watchdog even built it's audience through the hour which is a good sign. Not a good night for Five though, I don't know the Primetime Shares, but I suspect ITV2 might have been close to beating it. On a side note, thanks to ITV Media for reporting the Countrywise figure - we haven't had it for a while! It seems to be doing pretty well, 3.7m isn't that bad in what tends to be a tricky slot - I think its on par with what The Krypton Factor was doing earlier this year. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009...r-websites-pay --> Now that England have qualified, no one will watch that. |

Watchdog building its audience despite the second half going up against Corrie (and all the "aint it awful" comments in the WD threads!) must be a major surprise. Looks as though c4 was the major loser across that period?

Quite embarassing for WAT to get under 1.2m for CH4 when the CSI crossover episode on FIVE:USA got over 2m last year! I think FIVE would be better aquiring this show because it suits their audience more. Interesting to see Watchdog actually increase against Corrie and as D.M.N says it seems to take its audience from Ch4. Can someone tell me though why FIVE changed their schedule at the last minute and aired a film at 9pm? Was this due to how poorly You're Nicked! performed last week? Also anyone know where Flash Forward is being slotted yet? Regarding ITV2 scheduling Trinity appears to be getting a Sunday 10pm slot following on from new The Xtra Factor where it should do decently. There's also a 9pm repeat on Wednesday. I suspect it would need at least 0.5m+ for a recomission. |

Actually it was the Chairman of the Trust, who has no say in programming decision.
And this is just ITV carrying on their hissy fit. Plus it is typically of the extremely low quality journalism I have come to expect from ITV News. ![]() It was very tacky. No surprise to see Mark Austin including that item in News at Ten, as he's always struck me as a bit of an anti-Beeb. It's not the BBC's fault he's spent his ITV career in Trevor McDonald's shadow. |

As for Brucie, I notice he didn't care about Strictly airing at 5.50pm in 2006 and 2007 when it beat The X Factor, which aired an hour later.

Apologised as if it's beyond their control? They scheduled it there!
ITV's toys are already coming out of the pram with just a 100-minute show!

It's football next week and then a docusoap called Vice Squad which I suspect will do well as it appeals to the same audience as Police Interceptors, Brighton Beach Patrol and Soho Blues. FlashForward is scheduled for Monday 29th September which mean Warship is off the schedule which is strange as it wasn't doing badly, also scheduled after it is Ross Noble's Australian Trip. |
