8 dances in a 60 minute programme = 7 minutes per dance.

If the dance last 2-3 minutes then that leaves enough time for comments, votes and interviews. Say 6 and a half minutes per dance to leave 8 minutes for titles, credits, Bruce's patter, introductions of dancers and judges and BBC trailers just before the news. Start a couple of minutes before 9 just for that little bit extra time.

No need for a clash with Corrie.

Incidentally, anybody think that ITV1 have put an hour long Emmerdale on against Eastenders next Tuesday just six weeks after stopping it, as a petty-minded tit-for-tat retalliation against BBC1 putting the Edinburgh Tattoo and the bank holiday drama Framed on against Corrie?

He does have a point though. It isn't fair to compare Strictly at 6.15pm and X Factor at 7.30pm. If it was the other way around the ratings would be the other way around, because all the X Factor viewers would switch over - like they did to X Factor. Plus the total number of TV viewers rises until about 9pm on a Saturday, so you have a larger potential audience when you go on later.

But surely you cant do all the dances and leave time for voting/results etc in a 60 minute programme - can you?

He makes a fair point about being on earlier, but Strictly's share was still lower than The X Factor's last series. 42% to 37%. If both shares were the same, then his argument would look stronger. As it is, there's no guarantee that SCD would have beaten TXF in a later slot.

Also, for XF's Sundays shows last year they started before Strictly (one show started nearly two hours earlier) and still beat it in the ratings those days!

WILTY gets the same overnights in week 3 as week 1 but so did As Seen On TV and Bang Goes The Theory after both dropping in week 2 and I think (I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong) their ratings have dropped since.

What did WILTY get in week 2? Is it following the same pattern as ASOT and BGTT?

Next week's WILTY is on at the earlier time on 10.00 (on the bank holiday) and gets priority over the news. I wonder if the BBC are regretting putting it on so late. Last night's episode was absolutely hiliarious.

If that turns out to be the case the BBC are best putting Strictly at 8pm and bumping EastEnders to 9.30pm.

Glad that WILTY is doing OK in the later slot. I think its a good plan from BBC One to try and use the 10.35pm slot a bit better - especially in appealling to younger viewers. Considering the numbers up for grabs there - its a pretty under-exploited slot.

Brucie clearly getting a bit exasperated with the ratings battle talk. I do understand the frustration - the simple fact is that SCD had a record performance last year. Its hardly knocking on deaths door - its stronger than its ever been.

But the press are too interested looking for the "battle" which must have a winner and a loser. XF itself has come up against this in the past few days with people downplaying its very strong numbers because they look moderate in comparison to BGT.

If the Friday SCDs are going to be 60 minutes, they'll probably still start at 8.30pm. 9pm would be too late a start for what's meant to be a family light ent show.

And I think the scheduling of Framed works more in favour for ITV1, because Corrie will always have 7m loyal viewers who will watch that Monday episode and then provide a decent lead in for Wuthering. People won't want to switch on Framed after already missing half an hour of it.

Next week ITV should have a great week with Wuthering, Harry Potter and a much better Tuesday schedule (even though I think The Fixer won't reach its full potential in a Tuesday slot).

Channel 4 are stuck in that contract.

A - there is always a get out clause. It might cost, but especially in these times there is always an opportunity to renegotiate contracts - i.e. scrap BB for now but commit to looking at a reworked version in future years, or commit to a level of other Endemol programmes instead.

B - if they can't get out of it and are committed to effectively six months of the show, why on earth did they let BB10 be such a disaster rather than giving it a fighting chance of reviving the shows fortunes (both Endemol and C4 actually!)

It's one thing burning off episodes of a series already in the can, but another letting a show die without bothering to even try to revive it when you've got the chance. And if they tried next year, it simply would be too late.

I think next year is the final year in the contract and I suspect Channel 4 will not renew it and end it and after 10 years which is still a fantastic run.

If you asked me, I'd say C4 milked it way too much. Having a reality show, day-in day-out for 13 weeks is too much and soon gets boring.

I gave up watching completely a few weeks ago. It does go on for too long and I expect the final will only get 3 million, 3.5 million peak possibly.

I think it's ridiculous we have this huge publicity campaign for the new soap times and then start messing around with them already. There's no reason for Harry Potter to be shown on Wednesday at all, it'll just confuse people.

What I'd have done is, rather than the Thursday 8pm episode, just run five half hours on Monday to Friday and then, when there's no football, have an hour long episode on the Wednesday. If only because the schedules now look a mess, and also there's no need for six shows a week every week just because they can. Although of course it's screwing BBC1 so clearly it'll never happen.

I'm sure they have realised already. Admittedly the launch show was very poor, but if all it takes is one bad show to lose about 33% of its viewers, then you're looking at a show at the end of its lifespan whatever happens.

Compared to how they felt 12 weeks ago when the ratings first came in, Channel 4 are probably thrilled! The series has clawed back a little bit and avoided a total collapse (which many predicted after the first few numbers). Of course, overall, they will be very disappointed at the ratings. But they aren't going to admit that.

The press pack says the 16 professional dancers will be performing a group dance and the 8 celebrity couples who are not competing in the first week will do a group dance on the friday night.

Unfortunately, I don't have the F1 figures (yet!), but Jake Humphrey says that 1 million people after each race press the Red Button and watch the forum.

I don't know about you, but for what is effectively a one-hour post-race roundup for hardcore fans, I find that statistic astonishing. I suspect that it would be one of the highest rated channels in the F1 Forum timeslot (I'm not actually sure if you can class Red Button as a proper channel), probably third best to BBC One, ITV1 and Sky Sports 1 in that timeslot.

I've also found out that practice behind the Red Button gets nearly 500,000 viewers, and once you factor in those viewing online, you're looking at probably near 1 million people watching practice - which I find astonishing as well.

EDIT: I see BBC have now gone into promo-overdrive with SCD...

Last year the Tattoo was in the same slot and averaged a respectable 4.83m in the overnights. Emmerdale at 7.00 appeared to take a bigger hit than Corrie at 7.30. (Emmer had 5.5m down from 6.48m the previous week. Corrie had 8m down from 8.62m. It beat Eastenders but was behind its 8.30 episode.

Re Framed: This sort of bank holiday scheduling didn't do the premier of Superman Returns many favours at Christmas as it scored what I would say was a disappointing 4.41m. However fims aren't quite the force they used to be on terrestrial telly and Framed is being well publicised and stars Trevor Eve who's a popular actor. Maybe viewers will feel like watching something different on the BH, and they will have 3 days to catch up with Corrie before the next episode on the Thursday.

Whatever happens, let's applaud BBC1 for making a bit of an effort on the Bank Holiday for once (and ITV1 can have a tentative pat on the back.)

That does sound very high. I'd consider myself to be a big F1 fan I've never seen the forum once. I usually feel that 3 hours is enough.
