The rating that stands out for me there is CSI: Miami - isn't it nearer the 2.5m range?

...and Grimefighters rating is an example of what happens when 'you start on one day then move to another a few episodes through its run'.....

BTW, 'Emma' starts on 4th October @ 9pm on BBC One.

NCIS is a monster hit in the US and it can only go higher with weak competition I think from Shark Tank, NCIS:LA did very well and I think if it can retain a decent portion of the lead in then it will get a full season order but I imagine CBS will move it to Sundays or Wednesdays next season to boost those slots. The Good Wife did okay but it wasn't exactly compatible with the two NCIS'.

NCIS has really come out of nowhere to become the biggest hit on American Television after American Idol and I expect Five are happy they picked it up three years ago because it's had similar growth here and has become a key player after The CSI Franchise and continues to perform well even in repeats.

CSI:Miami is a series where you can watch it week in week out without having to tune into every episode and I think The Choir and Jamie's American Roadtrip have dented it, it will recover once those series finish and I'm sure the repeat on Friday and on Five USA make up for the lost audience.

'Popstars to Opera Stars' (surely they'll change that title), is a 6 week run, starting January 2010.

I'll guess now that Mylene Klass will present it.

The new six-part series will see eight pop star celebrities put through their paces to sing arias in front of a judging panel and a live studio audience.

Each week viewers will vote one off until the new operatic star is revealed.

The wannabes will have two mentors to help them train, and the series is slated to run in January 2010 in a primetime weekend slot on ITV1.

I like the comment after that article that Opera Stars to Pop Stars would be funnier. I would watch that. Katherine Jenkins and Paul Potts doing N-Dubz is what we need on ITV.

Harry & Paul have been relegated from BBC One. Not many shows go in that direction do they ?

It's an odd one. But if I was in charge of BBC1 I wouldn't want it either.

I take it The Peter Serafinowicz Show (wahey, managed to spell it right first time without cheating via Google) hasn't been recommissioned? Shame, I thought that one had potential. Well, not ratings wise, but I thought the sketches were mostly good.

Is this not ITV's version of Maestro?

NCIS is one of those rare shows that just gets everything
right - perfect chemistry between cast and strikes the right tone, It reminds me of a US version of New Tricks. The shows are very different but it shares similar successful features.

Of course, it also builds on from JAG which did well after flopping on its original network.

The Bellasarios are just so good at creating this kind of series (eg Magnum - which gets name checked in NCIS now and then) and I hope the rumours are true that that other great show of theirs from the past - Quantum Leap - may be coming back as well.

Richard Bacon said yesterday on Twitter that he met Steve Pemberton and S2 of Psychoville is not yet confirmed, but looking ok, for anyone that is interested.

Should they have Mark Austin fronting it then!

Oh dear This is the sort of programme I'd expect Sky1 or Living to commission, not ITV.

I think NCIS really hit its stride in season 5 and it was because they got a new showrunner as Donald P Bellisario stepped down due to conflicts with Mark Harmon.

I think that would be a mistake - best left as a one-off series IMO.

CBS had its best premiere week Tuesday in viewers since 1993 and best in the demo since 2004. It posted double digit increases on 2008 in every slot.

ABC will be slightly concerned with Dancing With The Stars which is looking to be a good bit off its usual pace. The Forgotten wasn’t up to much but nobody expected much more. It will probably lose to Leno most weeks.

NBC and FOX got good numbers from reality shows.

"The second series of the show – originally known as Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry & Paul before it was abbreviated - aired in BBC1’s key Friday 9pm slot in September 2008 and averaged 3.4 million, a 14.7% share. The BBC said the move to BBC2 was not a demotion but was because the show was a better fit for its new channel."

3.4m isn't a lot, so not too surprising.

Blimey, I'm surprised it was as much as 3.4m, because I don't remember it being that high.

Procedurals should return typically strong for CBS and NBC. But ABC might hold hopes of sneaking an 18-49 win in the hour with the well received sitcom Modern Family and new Courtney Cox sitcom, Cougar Town. FOX will be hoping that Glee holds up for its 4th episode.

10pm:
ABC - Eastwick (new show starring Rebecca Romijn)
CBS - CSI: NY

ABC is female friendly and Eastwick is in keeping with that. It's performance could depend heavily on what kind of a lead-in it gets. So far, ABC has struggled at 10pm on Monday and Tuesday.

IIRC, it was getting 2.9-3.1m, but the last two episodes were boosted to 3.5-4m by airing before Little Britain USA (which started with about 5m before falling).

Oh that's so patronising!

I reckon CBS will win the night just on CM and CSI:NY, I expect CSI:NY will premiere well due to the cliffhanger last season and will continue to perform solidly due to the week competition. They need to dump Old Christine and Gary Unmarried as they are clearly loss leaders.
