Have you noticed how some soap characters experience complete changes in personality? This is particularly apparent when a) someone needs to be written out or b) ratings aren't too hot.

Take for example Corrie's Reg Holdsworth. Now I suppose most people considered him a bit of a fool. However, his love and devotion to his lady wife, Maureen, was unquestionable.

So it was slightly irritating to have him written off the soap by running off with another woman. This made no sense, he spent practically all his free time with Maureen right up until he left.

It must be said though, some of these personality revamps have been more hilarious than irritating. Can anyone think of any more?

Billy Mitchell comes to mind, he used to beat Jamie up and treat him like dirt when he was left in his care after Billy's brother, Jamie's dad died. He was then shown to always so great and gentle and encouraging with little Mo who was ironically a victim of domestic violence. This was later explained however, by revealing his childhood being beaten up whilst in care.

Laura Beale also springs to mind, she was a gentle character to begin with, then she became a little unforgiving of Janine's 'business' with her husband and started a witchhunt believing and wanting everyone else to believe Janin was behind the poison pen letters going around. She also spilt scalding milk all over Janine's face and lied convincingly to the police about the whole episode.

Any character in Hollyoaks who starts off as a bitch will end up becoming liked.

All grumpy old people in Australian Soaps such as Mrs Mangel, Bronwyn and Sharon's aunt (neighbours) and Donald Fisher will end up softening as the result of finally finding a loving family.

Nearly the entire cast of Heartbreak High turned into a Greek family in Home and Away (OK, only 3 of them!)

It's more complicated than that.
Leah and her mother were already mother and daughter in Heartbreak High. Alexi was in the last series of HearbreakHigh.
Now, Leah's city brother whom we saw earlier this week was replaced by Salvadore Coco (Con in he first series of Heartbreak High).
Nic's lawyer (when Angie accused him of assault) was Heartbreak High's last principal. I remember HH's Anita being in either soap(Neighbours or H&A but can't remember which one).

Little Mo bashing Trevor over the head with the iron was a little out of character but thats life, sometimes you do things that are out of character, except Mo's was believable.

Sam Mitchell going from lapdancer/dizzy barmaid to being hard and running the Mitchell empire is not all that believable. In saying that in a soap where they had a cop fall in love with a criminal and "not believe" he could do any wrong, well I guess believable isn't important in Walford lol

Pat Butcher/Evans/Beale whatever, was a right cow when EE started years ago but she is now a harmless ould soul.

Tariq in EE as someone else mentioned on here, 6 months ago he would have sold his kidney to the first buyer. Now he is all soft and soppy.

Not that complicated really.

Alexi was meant to be Italian in HH and i'm not sure what nationality Con was.

Anita (Lara Cox) has never been in anything of note except the film Kangaroo Jack and The Lost World stuff.

Everybody in Casualty - there's hardly any consistency from one week to the next!

Blanche in Corrie. She was always a cantankerous woman, but she's turned into an evil, bigotted, poisonous and completely heartless woman. They've stretched this side to her character purely to enable the storyline for Tracy to feel compelled to go and get her baby back. They switched things right around so that tonight, it was actually Tracy who was the one showing some compassion towards Roy and Hayley, saying she couldn't ask for the baby back because they'd have bonded by now.
