inspired by the TV Forum I thought this was a good question. Gary Glitter did have some good songs. When do we think it will it be OK to listen to it again without people being shocked. 5 years? 10 years?

I've been waiting for this thread ever since seeing that comment on the Barrymore thread.

The answer to the thread title is yes. I can't see a GG revival though somehow lol.

Well funnily enough the old Wagner argument gets dusted off here.

I'll have to keep an eye on the General Discussion Forums for this one now.

I generally have a few plays of Another Rock 'N' Roll Christmas every Yuletide and I can't say that I'd noticed myself being particularly shocked up to now.

Did he really have some good songs though ? I grew up in the 70's and when I used to see him on TV I always thought he was a comedian or something.

Exactly. The other non-Christmas Glitter tunes will start to get more airings over the years I'm sure. In years to come people won't even remember Gary Glitter but the music will still be there.

I was a fan when I was a child. Thank goodness I never got the chance to meet him!

Yes he did.

"Rock and Roll Parts 1 and 2"
"Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)"
"Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again"
"I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)"
"I Love You Love Me Love"
"Oh Yes! You're Beautiful"
"Rock and Roll Christmas"

He was always considered 'glam-lite', when compared to Bolan, Bowie, Roxy Music, Slade. But his stuff was good solid pop and rock and roll.

Like millions, I used to like Glitter, and loved those songs growing up....

It is plainly silly to compare Paul Gadd to Hitler, as "Gary Glitter" never managed to make the trains run on time.

On the other hand, he didn't invade Poland either.

All his songs had some kind of sexual innuendo in the title. He was also a weird one on stage, bordering on scary.

"I'm the Leader of the Gang.. i am"

Probably not a good idea, considering the Gang problem is getting worse in the Uk

There are some things i cannot forgive, and his crimes are on the list.. so my answer is that it's never acceptable

He's burnt his bridges

The Glitter Band were far better than Glitter/Gadd. He always looked like a bit of a loony to me, and reminded me of Reg Varney in glittery suits.

I was at a party where the DJ put on a Glitter record, and you have never seen a dancefloor empty so fast, complete with grumbles and displeased looks. Then a couple of minutes later when the chorus kicked in, the partygoers realised they actually couldn't care less and were back on the dancefloor.

You still can't help but be creeped out by "dya wanna be in my gang" regardless of how perceptions may change over time.
