Hingis to win...

A real coup getting her. Sharapova might be to follow next year.

Never heard of her.

Yes, I am very much looking forward to Hingis. I just hope that she's not as bad as Monica Seles was on the US version of the show...I love Monica as a tennis player back in the day, but when she danced, I just wanted the horror show to stop.

I saw hingis on Beat the Star a couple months back and she seemed out of sorts and lack luster...I hope SCD will bring something great out in her. I'm looking forward to it!

With regards to Sharapova; can't stand the girl if I'm honest but the way her tennis season is going, maybe a go on SCD wouldn't be out of the question.

I agree it was a great coup, but just because you're a great tennis player doesn't guarantee a great dancer.

Sharapova has a long tennis career ahead of her yet I hope, before she might consider any dancing.

I cant wait to see her, she has an popular partner and she seems to have matured a lot.So i think she has a good chance.

Hingis has been horseriding all her life, and roller skates so her balance should be good.
Still can't figure out WTF she is doing on an English show, but will be watching out for her. Too bad the WTA was stupid enough to get rid of her.

Sharapova would be my overall wannabe female star to be on strictly, I LOVE her!!

I know you are only 16, but I wouldn't admit to that without Googling her first!

Is this an appreciation thread that they have missed

Sorry, that's a bit of a pointless post, but I un-appreciate seeing all those nasty little lines in the last 3 columns on page 1, so thought I'd bump up an old thread or two

This isn't an appreciation thread, it's 'declaration of desire for a particular contestant to win' thread.

It isn't an appreciation thread because you're allowed to have a discussion on here.

You're allowed to say you hope she doesn't win and anything negative about her you like. Can't do that on an appreciation thread.

So if we go and put 'we hate ............ ' on a particular persons appreciation thread and dont get shouted down then that becomes a discussion thread and not an appreciation thread and can be moved back ?? Have I got that right ?

If a woman does win I suspect it will be Jade Johnson. As for the men- don't rule out Ricky Groves

Well the understanding always have been that appreciation threads are only allowed to include positive posts. Any nasty comments will be removed. But that does mean they don't adhere to the rules of the rest of the forum which encourage discussion.

Sorry, but why?

A lot of people - not just those of 16 or under - couldn't tell you the name of any tennis player, cricketer, footballer, etc., as they simply don't follow, because they don't like, sport.

Personally, I had only heard of Hingis because she was in the news as being banned from playing tennis because of taking cocaine. For that reason alone, I don't care how she dances, I hope she goes out first week!

Let's hope Hingis is more sporting on the dancefloor than she was on the tennis court

Kaycee my comment was meant as a joke which is why it has a grin at the end, but you've raised two points really.

Personally I don't follow any sport, but I do read the news and try to keep up to date with what is happening around me. Well known sports people are in the news every day for non-sporting reasons just like any other celeb, so why should not liking sport mean you don't know who someone is? I don't know every sportsperson, but I have at least heard of plenty who are or were at the top of their field and Hingis was certainly on the front page of daily papers often enough throughout her career. I have heard of 9 out of 16 celebs this year, but I Googled the others as soon as they were announced to find out more about them. Seems like common sense to me.

The second point is if that's what you think about Hingis then the tabloids have won. If you read my other posts on this subject you might think differently (post #4 on here gives more information).

She denied that she had taken it though and protests her innocence to this day , plus a hair test they did on her came back negative so from that you could say it was proved that she never took it , intentionally and/or a significant amount anyway.

She would also not be banned if it happened now, as the rules were changed after banning her.

Hello Sid - mwaah, mwaah from the other side of the world (I'm in Oz).

I will be back in the UK early October, so I'll try hard to reserve judgement till then.

What would you like as a pressie - a boomerang (to make sure I come back) or a hat adorned with corks?

Back on topic - re Martina ; I'll reserve judgement. Those who I hope do well are Jade, Joe and Richard.

Hi Ignazio in Oz!

Hope you are enjoying your time down under! I hope Richard in particular does well as I've got a bet on him! Have you worked out how to watch the show while you are away?

Hello gorgeous <smooch>

What are you doing in Oz? I don't like this arrangement at all

Sod the boomerang and hat, just get yourself back here! (preferably with an aussie accent)

I was just teasing regarding Martina. I'm sure she'll be very gracious on Strictly. But my over-riding memory of her on the tennis court will always be the almighty tantrum she threw in the '99 French Open Final!
