Tiscali + Box Crashing

Hi all,

Since buying a new TV, we have experienced some issues with the Tiscali box. I originally thought it was the TV, but am now wondering if a STB update has caused the problem.

Every now and then, when I watching TV, the screen just goes black. The STB is still switched on and TV still on the same input, but it is just no longer viewable. I am able to change to other sources, but the Tiscali source is still blank if I try it again. The only way to fix the problem is to pull my whole unit out and un plug everything and try again. It is not until I unplus the Tiscali STB that the TV displays "no source".

As you can imagine, this is very very frustrating.

Thanks

Mine does it too occasionally too, and does only seemed to have started happening since the latest update. There doesn't seem to be any pattern, except it's while watching a recorded show, I mean no particular time or program, and after switching it off and on again it behaves perfectly.

I haven't done anything about it as, as I said it's only occasional (although it did happen last night)

Mine recently started going black too.

I had the same problem when playing back programmes, this only started happening after the STB update. This only happened once when watching live TV however.

Tiscali changed my profile from 5Mb to 3.4Mb and this seems (touch wood) to have fixed the problem. I now have problems with pixelating on the IPTV channels, however, it's always swings and roundabouts with Tiscali TV.

so frustrating, and i dont want my profile reduced - i only just had it improved cos my bb speeds were too low.

honestly thought it was a tv issue.

thanks

I should have explained - my "blackouts" only occurred after I had a replacement Tiscali+ box which wouldn't work with my existing Speedtouch router (the engineer tried 3 different brand new boxes) so I had to have a Thomson fitted at the same time.

Galling, because the only problem with the previous Tisc+ box was that it started buzzing loudly, and the new box has continued at the same volume, if not louder, from the outset - too loud for bedroom use so it's now switched off all the time

Interesting..

Mine did this a couple of times not long after the software update a couple of months back - but only when playing back from the hard drive.

It's a done it a couple of times in the last fortnight too but I put it down to the fact that the box was getting quite warm - opening up the front of the video cabinet (it's a glass-fronted Ikea thing) seemed to have solved the problem for me so might be worth a look if this is happening to you?

Could be just a fluke, mind..

My box has also done this a couple of times, the last time it lost the HDMI settings so I had to dig out a SCART cable to reset it. Very annoying!

I am also having this problem - seemed to have died down a bit - but this week it is back with a vengeance!
