That uses your phone to show others what it can do, instead of using it for what it's meant to do?

TBH i'm happy using my phone - instead of linking spoof websites. But hey - whatever rocks your boat and you consider entertainment doesn't bother me.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying, “I wish people would just get on and use it to make some ****ing calls already.”

It's deffo a yes

I'd say it's used less then 1% of the time for calls. But that's an indication of me and my priorities. I'm normally surfing the net or using apps. The music is used even less but podcasts are used an awful lot.

What does that prove? Are we saying that people with mobiles have them attached to their heads 100% of the time making calls and frying brain cells? Or strapped to their hands texting and getting RSI?

Yeah my iPhone is mainly used for Music, Movies and Apps. I do use it for calls but only about 1-2 hours worth a week.

As it's more of a PDA than a phone, the phone usage will be less than the other possibilities.
I can manage to go more than five minutes without having an inane pointless conversation with someone just because the mobile phone has been invented.
Most of the people I know have a Smart phone of one description or another so it would not be achieving anything whipping out the IPhone at every occassion to show what it can do. I'm sure they all know already.
Surely people have gotten used to the invention by now??

I haven't got an iphone . But if I did have 1, then I would be 1 of the 88%.

I have an ipod touch & I cannot help myself to show others all the interesting applications I have on it, so goodness knows what I would be like if I had an actual iphone

The great majority of the time that I'm actively using it, I'm using it like an ipod to listen to music. But it's useful to have a phone with you even if you're not actively talking on it, because you never know when you'll get a call or need to make one. The web features can be very useful when you're out of the house or office and need to get directions or look up someplace to go.

My iPhone has a *phone* in it? Wow - I didn't realise there was an app for that!

In some rough order of iPhone usage for me:

Music
Maps
E-mail/Facebook
Internet or custom info apps
Games (mainly while on toilet)
Texting
Taking notes
Camera
Showing it off to impress the laydees
Watching video
Phone
So does that put me in the 12%?

No, because many of the non-phone related stuff folk do with their iPhones, requires a connection to a mobile data network. Outside of wifi, iTouches don't offer that, and cheap phones don't have the iPhone/iTouch 'toys' we crave.
