I use pease pudding, no need to soak.
I chop an onion and put it in a saucepan with some butter. Fry it for a bit. Add the ham and then fry that off.
I then add vegetable stock and herbs.
Simmer it for ages until a spoon stands up in it.
Wait for it to cool.
Liquidise.
Reheat.
Voila some lovely Dutch snert!
