getting BTV to replace Sky won't work out much cheaper, if at all. If cost is the main driver then look at TUTV or stick to freeview.

who is your phone and broadband provider?

if it's already with BT then £20 gold pack may be cheaper than what you already have.

BT do 3 main prices:

Bronze - £15 = TV and Replay + 2 items
Silver - £18 = TV and Replay + 3 items
Gold - £20 = TV and Replay + all 4 items.

the items are as follows:

Picturebox Films
Vision Sport
Vision Music
and Vision Kids.

on top of all those on any pack you can pay a one off Fee of around £10 for an ESPN viewing card, this then gives you free ESPN sports.

aside from all that you can subscribe to the items individually at £5 each (TV, sport, kids, music not sure bout picturebox), replay is £3

if you don't want no sub at all then you can revert the box into a pay per view mode, pay as you watch; you'll be billed at the end of the month.

unlike Sky it is a Video on demand platform, where there isn't channels per sae, more like categorized library of pre loaded content. you can watch it at any time.

its doesn't have sky1 or living but content from it. Lost is on there and i think there is stuff from living on there too. obviously not current like sky as they have the licences but after the whole Lost 5 is screened on sky then Bt gets it advert free.

but its all down to what packages you got with sky at the moment and who your broadband and phone provider is.

I wish you'd stop going on all the time about how BTV is more expensive than Sky. The costs all depend on what you want and your current circumstances. Now for me, BTV works out cheaper, for others Sky does - no big deal - if Sky works out cheaper, you have Sky, if BTV works out cheaper you have BTV - hardly rocket science. Also, even though TUTV can be cheaper, I personally think the content you get with BTV is a lot better, but that is not true for everyone.

Anyway, as BTV is on demand, you do not get any 'live' channels just a catalogue of programs from them which you can view whenever you wish. The replay option which is free in a value pack is a catch up of some programmes (similar to IPlayer, but for all channels on your TV). You can also get access to a large library of films which you can pay and 'rent' - like having an electronic Blockbusters on your TV. And obviously, as its on demand, you can watch it whenever you want
