Regarding your second bit about stopping it, it is worded slightly vaguely, however I think it is intended to be like this:

"The qualifying session was one of the longest ever undertaken in Formula One's history lasting almost three hours and we felt that it was important to stay with the coverage [on BBC One for as long as possible] as it was critical in context of the world championship, particularly for the then hopeful, Jenson Button."

I think, otherwise, the argument may have not had many legs to stand on.

Just a quick note that Eurosport will show World Superbikes in HD (at least for the european rounds) untill atleast 2012. I count that as news considering how far apart the two sides were during the negotiations in the summer. The Flaminni brothers have learned from Dorna's mistake and will not repeat it. Every race will be broadcasted and archived online.

Last year when the race was on 1st November, the race started at 5pm here which was 3pm there, I think Bernie lodged with race officials to get it moved from 2pm into 3pm and thus more into primetime.

A 2pm start there on 14th November next year would be a 4pm start here as there would only be a two hour time difference - thus it'd be finished at 5:30pm, which isn't really primetime....

I'm not sure what time sunset is in the middle of November is for Brazil as to whether a 4pm start time there is actually realistic...

In light of the above, I think we are looking at another 5pm start (3pm local) although looking at the sunset times, a 4pm local (6pm/7pm CET) start is not outwith the realms of possibility.

I think Bernie realises that a 6pm (7pm in Europe) start is too much of an imposition on broadcasters as it limits their ability to show other primetime programming after the Grand Prix has concluded. 5pm is probably a good compromise.

It'd just be the exact same situation as last year's race which was 3pm there, 5pm here.

They do seem very good at picking the right music for the right moment, the Embrace track on the Button/Brawn montage for example.

I dont think they ever upload FP3 which is a shame, ive watched every session upto this weekend but missed FP3 as i was at the match and didnt get back in until 5.15pm (just for qualy). Ive not even seen Grojseans (sp?) incident yet...

BBC object to using Allen's commentary because he is branded as being the voice of ITV F1, this is not an issue with stand in commentators.

Actually the BBC have specifically said that they don't use commentary by non-employees.

The BBC is committed to launching HD broadcast channels on Freeview which involves rearranging the existing standard definition channels on that platform.

Part of this new arrangement involves switching off two of the three interactive streams it uses on Freeview to deliver Red Button content.

The switch off happens on the 27 October but Freeview viewers will still be able to see sport, music and entertainment on the remaining interactive stream.

Viewers will no longer see the BBC News Multiscreen and for other content including sport and music there will be less repeats with content played out in smaller blocks of time.

This means that there will now only be one F1 Red Button stream on Freeview, which will most likely only be highlights.

And if another sporting event clashes with F1, it means that the other sporting event will most likely take the only remaining channel, and thus F1 won't be on there.

Does the BBC "Equality of Service" now kick in and mess it up on Satellite also? It doesn't look that way from the tone of the article.

Looks like all those who were going to have to get Freesat for (unlikely) HD now have to get it for Onboards.

(I recommend a Satellite card in a PC - the right software allows Picture-in-picture of the On-board channel.)

I wonder after analogue switch-off, will they relaunch the interactives?

Thanks, I wanted to see the beginning. The FOM intro didn't appear straight away and we got a placeholder instead (just for about two seconds), I wanted to see what it said....that sounds so geeky!
