What's the best way to get a rabbit to take medicine?

So my rabbit was neutered yesterday and I've been told to give him antibiotics by mouth, through a syringe. I put him on his back and got him in that hypnotic state, but the antibiotics ended up all over my bed instead of his mouth! He's not having any of it and he goes insane as soon as I pop it near his mouth.

Any ideas on how to administer this to him would be greatly appreciated!!!

you can put it on his food - so long as he eats all of it.

or add a little fruit juice to it to try tempt him

there was a thread a little while ago asking the same question, i'll see if i can dig it up for you

here it is - http://digitalspy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1105858

my rabbits have all been fine with it tbh, i just get my arm around their bum, head in my hand & pop the syringe behind their incisors in the gap and squeeze it

as a side note, hypnotising your rabbit isn't really advised to do as a regular exercise as it's a response designed to discourage predators from attacking and therefore very stressful for the rabbit

I have a rabbit who needs regular medication and trying to get him to take it from a syringe is a nightmare. I take a small piece of digestive biscuit, put the antibiotic onto that and leave it to soak in, I then pop the biscuit on top of his food bowl and it's gone within seconds!

I ended up putting it on a bit of apple which he seemed to enjoy.

Just feel sorry for the little chappy, he looks sad
