That's the cheapest price for a used copy from a Play trader. Some while back I picked up the Direction Reaction Creation book and cd set new for £18 in a sale.

' Long Hot Summer' ' My Ever Changing Moods' , 'Shout To The Top'
'Speak Like A Child' 'Walls Come Tumbling Down' , 'The Lodgers' to name a few.

The Style Council often get slagged but they had some pretty good tunes.

Love The Jam , Love The Style Council , love Weller.

I have never forgiven him and he should never forgive himself, what an absolute rubbish decision, what was he thinking the moron?

nope, not a bad thing but it does detract from his 'godlike' status held by some of his fans... i like the jam... but i feel weller gets adoration for unoriginal work and the kinks, small faces et al are the nes who should be getting the real respect.

'modfather'?..c'mon, he was second generation mod, so can hardly be called the modfather. rod steward, david bowie, along with daltrey, davis, marriot, and a whole host of 60's stars were the REAL original mods.

The Kinks do get the respect, the Small Faces less so, but then their body of work wasn't in the Kinks class

Style Council had one or two decent singles but ultimately they sucked. Their album "The Cost Of Loving" is so awful it's hard to believe it's made by the same guy who brought the world all those Jam classics. His solo career is the same as the Council too, a few decent tracks, the majority of them boring MOR dad-rock.
Oh, and Ronnie Lane was the Modfather.

They had the talent without question but they certainly didn't have the fan base of U2. They didn't crack America, Weller never has.

... but would they have cracked america if they had stayed together?... after all it took u2 a few years! plus they were a bigger, more instant hit then u2 who took the best part of 10 years to make it big.

I wouldn't want them have stayed together til today, just another few albums then pack it in before you are too old to be cool

Excellent band and brings back a memory from my youth when I went along to the "now defunct" Loch Lomond Festival. Some bright spark had booked The Jam as headliners and put Stiff Little Fingers on the same bill on the same day...cue a day of carnage and mayhem as the "punks" and "mods" participated in communal skirmishes and occasional battles

Weller, was , and remains a brilliant songwriter.

The Jam are tremendous. One of my all time favourite bands.

Favourite songs have to be 'Thats Entertainment' and ' Eton Rifles'.

I love both The Kinks and Small Faces (Steve Marriott has a brilliant voice!). Love The Jam too - all 3 are fab English guitar bands.

EDIT: Perhaps I should have said 'had' a brilliant voice as he's sadly no longer with us.

No I don't think they ever would have. Reason being U2 turned themselves into a America-Friendly band with "Joshua Tree", all pomp-rock which is perfect for AOR American radio and tastes. I'll say something for Weller, he never dropped his Englishness for the sake of the American market. Much like The Kinks, the Americans found The Jam TOO English.
