Did anyone here like Mutya's solo stuff?

I loved all her singles and her album was suprisingly good. But there was never no promo which is why her album, 3rd and 4th single bombed.

Her duet with Amy winehouse could have easily been a number 1 hit.

I've not heard the full album but know the singles and thought they were good, especially "Song 4 Mutya" which was great! I feel the Sugababes aren't the same without her.

I think apart from 5 songs, the album was very weak. But I have always liked her voice. However I feel too many people think she was the Sugababes. I know that it also took me a long time to get used to them without her. But if I look at things on a bigger scale. Amelle is a stronger singer, has had her first number one without the band and is likely to have a better solo career than Mutya has had once it comes.

So I think Amella is better for the group and its no surprise the American producers of their new album have placed her firmly at the front.

Disagree. Mutya has a better voice but i can deffo see Amelle having better success

But a suppose Mutya's debut album not doing well does not mean she won't do well in the future. Not the best comparison in terms of genre, but it has taken Dizzee rascal about 3/4 albums to finally achieve commericial success.

Song 4 Mutya was amazing. I liked B-Boy Baby as well. There were some other OK songs, but in general I just thought the album was really boring/inoffensive. I remember being at T4 on the Beach when she sang Just a Little Bit, and everyone around me was clearly bored, and just sat around talking to each other for the whole song.

I think Song 4 Mutya was the only true standout song on the album - yet that was the one which didn't even fit with the rest of the songs, and which I doubt Mutya had any input in. Oh and I liked the demo version of Paperbag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b-jinkAe-c But the final version was terrible.

I do really like Mutya though so I've got high hopes for her new album (its out next year apparently). I think she really desperately needs to release something in a Sugababes/Girls Aloud-style, otherwise the next album will bomb too.

I used to really fancy that girl when she was in Sugababes. I’m ashamed to say I still don’t think I’ve heard any of her solo stuff. I took a couple of years out of listening to new music!

I genuinely do think Mutya 'made' the Sugababes. Their output has been awful since, and 'Get Sexy' will probably be hugely succesful but that doesn't mean it's not hugely shit!
Her solo album is nice to listen to but it's kind of just background music, nothing much jumps out of you because it's all very slow except the amazing Song 4 Mutya. I think most the songs are really good, but only Song 4 Mutya stands out enough to be a good single really. It was never gonna do that well.
A second album would need a better mix of that and the stuff that made the Sugababes great while she was with them!
