ID3 tags getting mixed up - ipod dying ?
JasonWatkins

Much to my absolute horror, i've just been nosing through my ipod and updating some of the ID3 tags, as i usually do when i'm bored off my arse

anyway, i've literally just played 10 songs in a row that all have the wrong title.

for example - on my ipod, the song is "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister.

If you select it to play, it actually plays "Town Called Hypocrisy" by Lostprophets.

There's loads of songs that are messed up like this - i really didn't realise (probably due to having 6000 songs on it)

Could it be a database foul up ? Duff sectors on the ipod ?

Any suggestions most welcome ...

Are the tags on files on your computer also messed up? If not, could try restoring firmware and resynching.

The tags on the PC are messed up as well - i only reformatted about 6 weeks ago and reloaded the music directly from the ipod, so it certainly suggests this problem has been there for some time.

i've been thinking about reformatting - i might have to ..

i reformatted .. everything seems fine, although i did realise that all the artwork updates and ID3 tag updates I did weren't actually stored locally

that's about 3 months work down the toilet .. but then i guess i'd rather the ipod be ok and do it all again ..

Were you updating the tags with itunes?

no, i use sharepod.

to be fair, I only ever tend to download the music to my hard drive one time and then I'll update the ipod directly with the artwork and stuff.

so i probably haven't lost all of the updates, just a lot of them.

Solutions simple enougth, get TuneUpMedia or Picard.

They work by digital signatures and can tag them correctly without you doing anything.
