I like that idea. If they're doing that by next year then hopefully, if she's invited back, Ruth will fall under both categories.

Haha I don't think I've been very clear myself, tending to pick up on a couple of people's points then go totally off on a ranty tangent.

I agree with what you're saying though. I think you may be referring to why Ruth wasn't mentioned at any point around the Purple Rain bootcamp performances - Cowell not wanting to push previous contestants not under his management - and accordingly why she may not be invited back to perform?

As for XF morphing into BGT, we'll have to wait and see whether it improves come the live shows as they're the real draw. If the live show format stays mostly consistent I can see XF still being popular for a long time yet. I hope by then Ruth wouldn't even need the show for exposure, but she's not the kind of person to be ungrateful to those who gave her her big break and, like Liz said, would jump at the chance to return.

Usually I want March to hurry up for my birthday but now it's for Ruth's album.
I hope it doesn't leak anywhere as, as much as I whinge, I wanna wait til March. The leak could damage any chance of it being successful imo.

Don't know if they were only for the shoot but I love her clothes. She always look so stylish and beautiful yet never comes across as trying too hard.

I put the whole interview in one go into babelfish for a laugh.

Didn't manage to break it but from what I picked out from the garble it looks like a really good interview.

A year has passed since your appearance on "The X Factor". How do you look back on the experience?

Without doubt, it has been the adventure of my life. It is something that happened almost by chance and that has allowed me to realise the dream I have chased for as long as I can remember. I went to London to audition, encouraged by some friends there - who always used to come and see me sing here in Murcia - and I just kept passing audition after audition. It was not something I had planned to do, but it is the best decision I have ever made.

How do you feel about the public response in the UK? Do you feel loved?

Very much so. It's crazy. I think the programme was seen by 12 million people, so it is a boom equivalent to that of the first series of "Operacion Triunfo" in Spain. I even need to have bodyguards. People on the street are always stopping me to tell me precious things. To illustrate, once, I wanted to take the tube to have a normal life, but there was such a rush that I had to get off at the next stop. But I'm not complaining.

It has been confirmed that you have signed a multi-million dollar contract with EMI to launch your debut album. How did you receive the news?

Imagine! I was not expecting anything. We were told the winner records with Sony, and that's it. And I came fifth, so I did not have many expectations. I had hoped that out all these millions of people who had seen me, someone would say: "Hey, the Spanish girl doesn't sound bad... we could do something." But there was nothing for me. They told me the same night I was voted off. Proud, I suppose... a lot. But, especially, because I am the first contestant in the history of the programme to go on and record an album with another company that is not Sony Music (whom Simon Cowell works for). This shows me that they have total confidence in me.

How did Simon Cowell take the news?

Well, I have not had the opportunity to speak with him, although I suppose it does not leave a good taste in your mouth when your competition wants to take away one of your boys. But I suppose my decision is understandable, I could not turn down something like this. He is very intelligent, so there will be no problem. Besides, with him not being my boss, we can go out for a drink and a chat. [Laughs].

What can you tell us about this first album?

That it will surprise a lot. It will be my own songs, since I have been composing for many years. And I want to do something really rock. I believe there is a big gap in the industry in this sense, it's missing a woman who does rock. A female version of Aerosmith.

It has been reported that you are going to work with very powerful people, such as Steven Tyler (AC/DC).

Yes, many things have been leaked, but not all of them are really certain. As yet, not everything has been decided. Yes, it is true that there are a lot of very famous people who are interested in the project. For example, Bon Jovi has sent me some songs.

When will it be in the shops?

In March. They wanted to release this year, but I preferred to take my time and do it well. I have spent too many years hoping for this opportunity to waste it now by running too fast. That being so, maybe before this date, we can give a little surprise. [Laughs]. And I can read about it.

How is your relationship with the other people in the contest?

Very good. The best thing of all is that I talk to each and every one of them and I have a great deal of affection for them. My great friend was Alexandra Burke but as she won and had to go away to record the album, we could not remain so close. Although we talk continuously on Twitter. Now I have more of a relationship with Diana Vickers and JLS. With Diana especially. She almost always comes back to my house to sleep and everything (I've had to buy a mattress!). She's my baby girl.

And with the judges?

Also very good. Dannii always believed in me and has been a great help. We see each other a lot and, most of all, we talk on the phone. She is a special person and very good. She is not only there to do her job. With Simon, it was odd because we had a different relationship to the other contestants. Everyone obeyed his orders without question as if afraid of him. I always argued with him (in a good way) and this suited him. He is not used to people going against him.

And Cheryl Cole?

She is probably the most famous woman in the UK at present... And it doesn't surprise me. She loves people. It's true, I'm telling you. We get on great and, despite not being in her group, she was always giving me encouragement and saying how good I was. She was one of those who always told me that not being in the final or not winning because of being Spanish, was not a question of talent. We still keep in touch and have a good chats.

Now that she is going solo, will it be the end of Girls Aloud?

I'm sure it won't be. It is one of the best loved bands in the UK and, although Cheryl Cole will be successful (She will be. I assure you. And she deserves it.), she won't leave the group. She is always talking about the girls and how well everything is going for them all. They are a girlband that is already an example.

What would have become of you if you had finally been selected for Operacion Triunfo 2?

Probably, my life would be nothing like it is now and I would still be fighting hard in Spain for an opportunity that, for sure, I would never have. But look, I believe that everything happens for a reason. It was not my time.

Did you think it was a bad decision at the time?

Yes, of course. In fact I did not return to audition ever again.

What do you think the contestants owe their success to over there? (Something that never happens in Spain.)

Here they only seek an audience. I believe they don't care much about musical careers. Over there, the format is much more understanding and they get some amazing audiences, without including so much reality. People question whether Spain has as much talent as other countries... Of course it has. But no-one is interested in bringing it out. Perhaps a good fight matters more than a good performance.

Coming back to your album, where do you plan to launch it?

In principle, worldwide.

Will it contain any Spanish songs?

It is being considered. Although I'm more interested in the idea of doing one in English. And, afterwards, one in Spanish. So as not to mix it all up. And it seems it will be so.

Do you come back to Spain often?

As often as I can. I need to be in my homeland, to see the Mediterranean, my family and my boy. Although I have no complaints about London, I am very happy there too.
