720p spot the difference?

Is 720p the way to go? ZDF HD is one of the new FTA channels on Astra 1. Currently they are showing a test loop and transmit in 720p rather than 1080i. Here is a link to a short clip. Give it a go on your Humax HDR . All 3 files are included but anything else that can handle a .ts file will need only that file.http://www.4shared.com/dir/18659726/c298acbd/ZDF.html
Any observations?

Whilst 720p50 is great and compresses better etc...

Problem is all major events are done in 1080i (even the IAAF althletics in Berlin)

A lot of US stuff is 1080p24 anyways and 1080p25 is becoming a defacto standard for a lot of content in Europe.

Pretty sure everyone agrees that 720p and 1080i is near impossible to tell the difference even on a 1920 x 1080 display. With fast moving action and sittiing really close to the screen you might see the reduction in motion artefacts. 720p at 50 fps thats a different story, should look better than 1080i/50

Problem is a significant proportion of the 1080i stuff on TV and Blu-rays doesn't have much detail above 720p.

The master material on the other hand definitely does.
