On saturday my next door neighbours daughter (shes 10) found the dog on the main road near us being attacked by a massive dog! So Her dad went and fetched them both and brought them home. But our next door neighbour all ready has a pup and the two diddnt get get on so we said we would have him on saturday night. So sunday morning came and we took him to the rescue centre to hand him over. The woman there was really nice and was telling us that they have 75 spaces and more dogs than spaces. She asked us if we could keep him for at least until his owners reported him missing. She gave us loads of food and toys and a lead and loads of other stuff. If the owners havnt come forwad in 6 weeks and hes ok with us we are going to keep him. and the rescue centre are going to chip him for free and give us discount injections. So at the minute its all up in the air. Hes a really calm dog and does what hes told, we think he must have lived with kids because hes really good with my daughter ( And she is scared of dogs anyway). So for now we have temporarily fostered him an are trying not to get too attached.

My question is....by now do you think the owner would/should have reported him missing and is there anything more i can do? (i have reported him found to the police too)

Thank goodness for your neighbours and yourself for helping this little one out

You have to report him found to your local dog warden. You are allowed to keep him for 28 days. If after 28 days, the original owner hasn't claimed him you are then entitled to officially claim him.

You could put up some posters locally where you found him and can put a post on your local gumtree. You could also check here: http://www.doglost.co.uk/page.aspx?pg=72

I hope it works out for you, but I also hope that he is reunited with his real owners if they are missing him too (iyswim), especially if there is children involved.
