Is there a way to connect the humax hdr to wireless network
using ethernet port to wireless adapter if it exists , rather than running a cable.

Yes, you need to buy two wireless access points, one for the Humax and the other for your router.
You could buy a couple of hotplugs instead, as the access points need power outlets as well, the hotplugs are less of a mess.

Even if the two devices are on different ring-mains there should be enough capacity to bridge through; it is only if the two parts of the house are on different phases that the HomePlug standard can't cope. We recommend the AV variant because it supports some levels of QoS which reduce the risk of other traffic on the network hogging bandwidth and allow the STB to request priority for traffic.

It is thought recording will be impossible

Also no rush to network your box as it still may be months before we get the feature and for all we know it may not work very well.

It can't be impossible, if it produces a SD video and audio output it can be recorded, just not on a hdr

You don't need two wireless access points at all as long as you have a wireless router, you just need a wireless bridge/gaming adapter such as this Belkin , currently £29.99, or this Linksys (+ ac adapter) £42.72.

No it is not a USB device, it will use an AC adapter.

I saw that it could be powerd by a usb ,just wondered if the humax hdr could supply the correct voltage if this is the same device that I looked at.

According to its specification it CAN be powered from a USB port.

However, it looks as though it may only support the older WEP encryption and NOT the more secure WPA/WPA2 encryption.

It looks like there are two versions, the older has two antennas but no USB power option, both can do WPA with the latest firmware:

A Buffalo box that is wireless N compatible (and g/b):

From the above post it looks like I will not be able to receive this service , if bob says he is recommending homeplug AV this runs at 200mbps my connection is only an 8 mb one from tiscali and can't be increased as this is the limit in my area. I tried the broadband test on the BBC iplayer site and it was about a fifth of the speed of the recommended connection speed , after the test it recommended that I downloaded what I want , then play it from there. From what I have read it will not be downloaded to the hard drive of the humax hdr is this right or what?

Yes that appears to be the current position, incidentally you won't get anywhere 200mbps from a pair of homeplugs if you get 50% you will be lucky.

Just done the test you refer to in my laptop connected to the router by a 100mbps cat5e cable. My system recorded nearly twice as much speed as required for HD i player

LOL I don't think Bob Cat was saying you needed a 200Mbps net connection. 200Mbps is just the internal rate between devices in your house, 3.5Mbps is needed to stream HD iplayer and only about 0.8Mbps for SD .

Yes he recommended it against wifi because wireless is less reliable . .hotplug AV starts at 200mbps or to be more exact datarate of up to 189 Mbit/s.
So as far as I know , Hotplug AV is not recommended with lower specified hotplug according to the data on the manufacturers websites.
if you know better please reply and save us some money.

For me the important part of the post is below

I tried the broadband test on the BBC iplayer site and it was about a fifth of the speed of the recommended .
connection speed.
