So summers over and whether you were at a festival or watching on tv which performances made a lasting impression?

For me Bloc Party stole the show at Reading which I didn't quite expect.

Obviously Radiohead deserve a mention for their headline set at Reading, just mind blowing.

I'm only going to comment on the festival I went to - Benicassim.

Disappointed that KOL cancelled, but the stand-out performances for me were:

Oasis - just a brilliant festival act. It was such a good atmosphere with everyone singing along and a bit of banter from the Gallaghers.

Pete Doherty - hit and miss usually, but he absolutely excelled at Beni. He was the last main act of the weekend, played some Babyshambles and Libs classics. Just wow!

Friendly Fires - these guys have so much energy. Ed Macfarlane is such a terrific frontman. He really got the crowd going.

I was going to say Friendly Fires but only caught the last bit of their set and they looked so energetic and had the tunes to back it up. Think if I'd seen their entire set they could have been the highlight

I've seen them twice this year (once at The Forum, once at Beni). Both times excellent. I'd recommend them to anyone.

It goes without saying that Radiohead were awesome and my favourite act of the weekend, but the other stand-out acts were:

Them Crooked Vultures - The supergroup including Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones were stunning. They played a secret gig on the NME stage, and it really was good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. Eagerly await the album.

The Prodigy - I was standing quite far back from the stage for these guys, as i didn't fancy getting killed in the pits, but they were still incredible. Played all the classics, and the new stuff is really top quality as well, the crowd were like putty in their hands, probably the biggest crowd i saw all weekend at the main stage.

Noah and The Whale - Saw most of their set and was pleasantly surprised. I hate the song '5 years time' so wasn't expecting to like them, but they really played a beautiful set.

Jamie T - Played a really great set and the crowd were absolutely loving it, singing along to every song. He also played a few new songs which seemed just as good as his older material.

Lethal Bizzle - Not my kind of music at all, but he had the NME tent absolutely rocking. It was the loudest i heard it all week.

Notable mentions also to Maximo Park, Ian Brown, Manchester Orchestra, Friendly Fired and Bloc Party. Arctic Monkeys were ok, but their set list was poor. They played mostly new stuff, and when they played their older stuff it was mostly slower songs, so the crowd never really got going. It felt as though they were really trying to prove that they had matured and grown as a band.

On a negative note, i lost a lot of respect for Kings of Leon on friday. They are a great band and i love their music, but the lead singer was such an idiot. He kept saying little remarks about the crowd being quiet, then eventually went off on one about how "everyone's sick of KOL and so are we, but we worked hard to get here, so to everyone that doesn't like us then f**k you." Me and the people that i was standing around were baffled. The crowd wasn't electric, i'll admit that, but it wasn't a bad atmosphere, and his attitude really annoyed me.

Yea like you said it wasn't that bad of an atmosphere, people were still into it so it shocked me that Caleb was like that. Especially after seeing them at the O2 earlier in the year where they were really humble and thankful etc.

Blur at T were mindblowing - despite the fact they only got 50mins cos Graham Coxon was admitted to hospital an hour before they were due on but discharged himself and arrived 90mins late and played past curfew!!

Any of Will Young's performances - Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, Camp Bestival, V (both venues). Apparently 15,000 people were watching him at the IW Festival. And that was in the Band Stand. You wouldn't know it though from the TV coverage!

I REALLY don't want to start a Reading v. Leeds debate but the only thing that came to mind when I saw this thread was seeing KOL at Leeds on sunday.
it was just SO. GOOD.
I cried quite a lot during Cold Desert, it always gets me, the lyrics and vocals are heartbreaking.
my personal highlight was when my friend put me on his shoulders during Use Somebody, blown away by the sheer amount of people singing the same song, the whole set was something I'll never forget.

Pogues at Beautiful Days. Was really worried about Shane McG, but he managed the entire set upright, great energy, sang and danced along to each and every song
