EE and the many soap cliches

Goodness knows how long now that Eastenders have gone downhill, i think it is two years now, ah yes two years since 2002!

However i have been thinking for a long time on where it is going wrong and i think i have found out where. Eastenders is now full of OTT old soap cliches. Your know the whole incest thing, sex mad freaks, loads of tarts and twisted family problems.

Now i know all soaps have them, but they usually have about 2 or 3 soap "clichey" storylines and the rest are FAIRLY original. However it seems to me that nearly every single storyline or plot in Eastenders is a soap cliche. I think people may disagree with my point here, especially those EE fans who will not let anyone say a bad word about the show even if the show itself is not quite up to its glory days.

And i do dislike the way the producers and writers are now only concerntrating on the young cast rather then letting the older cast have a go at a major plot. I mean theres only so much of new blood you can take before the show turns into a smart arse parody of Hollyocks (no offence to fans of that soap).

And i really do think some of the newer cast needs some acting lessons, honestly its quite cringe worthy watching some of the newer cast trying to act.

And please dont get me starting on that new Asian family, i dont know how they got the part to play these characters but evey time they are on screen i feel like i want to throw a shoe in their face.

Anyways we all know who is the main person responsible for this and that is a certain executive producer of the show. Though that producer has done some really good things for the soap like bring back dirty den, she has done alot of terrible things, probably its down to bad management of the creative writing department. But we all know that the average live span of a producer is around two to three years, so maybe her time is up.

Well i think we have another year before the soap improves and lets hope that comes fairly quick

There's way too many unrealistic storylines, the show seems to have this fascination with gangsters.

The fascination with gangsters and the underworld really annoys me. It's NOT what you expect in a soap opera - how many of us can relate to that?

And the stories are becoming very predictable. As soon as Tariq revealed he was the Ferreras' brother, you just KNEW that one of them would need a lifesaving operation and he would be the only one with a match. YAWN

Yes i agree.

Predictablity is also the curse of using soap cliches to its limit!

This "fascination" with gangster is totally ridiculous ......non of them are really gangsters anyway - Minty, Phil and the late Doulton are all old, fat men who used to be a bit tasty with there fist but are now laughable as "gangsters" and as for Dennis he comes accross the big "I am" but he was really upset at killing a man (hardly gangster material) and Andy got kicked out of his mob for being too soft !

Yes, it does sometimes seem like these sotries have been done to death, but I'm wondering what exactly could they come up with that's new and original.
