Is the surname Jeffries for the newie perhaps? Geoff Capes, Geoffrey, pluralised to Jeffries?

Not sure about whole team though....unit, squad, group, side (Sayid?!) , crew, troupe....can't make a plausible first name really....

Geoff is the first name.

Footballer from the 60s

Can only think of Geoff Hurst, but I can't relate Hurst to 'whole team' so I guess it can't be him

Think of Capes profession

Might be Geoff Strong then, played for Arsenal and Liverpool (who I think you support?)

That is right TC

A team full of Capes is Geoff Strong.

Very good one. I was struggling with it. I was thinking of Geoff Whitefoot , but that was spelt Jeff I think. Or even Geoff Thomas, another Forest player , not the more recent England player

Okeydoke, new clue then....

Bravo! Pass up a diamond, we hear

Is the first bit an anagram , and followed by a word sounding like diamond , like ace, card or gem?
Terrence Chant
14-11-2010
No, Bravo is the surname of somebody with the same Christian name as the fellow in the clue.

Cricketer, I'm sure you'll have heard of him David
Terrence Chant

Hint: he's rather on the portly side.

Pass up is a synonym of refuse, or depart for that matter, and is where the 'we hear' comes in

Diamond requires another synonym to the few already tried

Very well known county cricketer from the 80's / 90's although I don't think he played for England. (4,3)
