help with overiding prev account on an Ipod touch
80's chick
03-09-2009
My son was given an Ipod touch. It was given as a present. The family member who's Ipod it was isn't around anymore but it seems there is an account attached to it. Obviously we want to override this.
Whenever he tries to buy something (to give him the option of opening a new account) it just asks for a username and password.
The Ipod has been wiped completley once and still it comes up.

We don't know the username or password or neither do we want to as it will probably be linked to the ex family members credit card.

I was going to go out and buy him an i tunes voucher today but won't if we can't set up an account of his own.

Is there anyway around this.

Thanks Muchly

You should be able to create your own account in iTunes. I do not have it before me, but I think it's in menu Store->Create account or something similar. Then you can authorise your computer to store purchased content. BTW if you have Vista you need to run itunes as administrator to successfully authorise the computer.

No, it's in the application menu on top of itunes. One of the main items is Store, in the submenu must be an item "Create Account" or something similar. When you have this I think you can force the new account on the device, too.

It's easier to create an account by downloading iTunes onto your PC and creating an account in the PC iTunes program.

brilliant thanks very much I think we've cracked it now. It won't let me open an account until we either have an itunes voucher or a creditcard. I am off to buy him a voucher and hopefully that'll be that.

Thanks again

you can create an account without using a voucher or registering a card, find a free item (like a free application) click to download it and go from there.
