Why are cashew nuts so expensive?
Are they that much harder to grow than regular peanuts? Love them but the price of them is shocking - How come?

Peanuts grow in the ground and you dig them up.
Cahew nuts grow on trees, so it is more labour intensive to harvest them. |

It's a bloody good job they're so expensive, as I'd be the size of a house given the rate I can throw a bag of honey roast cashews down my gullet.

they actually grow singularly on top of a fruit, as you don't get many on a tree it makes them dear.

I'm always looking out for deals on cashew nuts because I use them a lot in my cooking. Asda do smart price ones at the moment, which is a fairly decent bags worth of broken cashew pieces, only 99p I think.
Look around health food shops though for when they go on sale. Sometimes the massive bags of them go for half price! |

Pine nuts and Maccadamia nuts are more expensive than cashews.
