The All Purpose Rugby Union Thread
discuss all things rugby related here for the coming season. Hopefully the domestic game can repair its damaged image from the various off field problems
I'm off to Twickers for the London double header, which will hopefully be as entertaining as last year (although with Wasps winning this year) we've got the various Autumn internationals coming, barring the threat of legal action by the Welsh regions, the revamped Anglo-Welsh cup and European competition (well maybe not for Quins )roll up, roll up! |

Someone's been quite mischievous appointing Dean Richards to referee Harlequins' first match of the season.

I am going up to the Saracens game at wembley next week. Never been to new wembley glad I am going to watch rugby! Then next week got a dinner at wasps for their offical launch night.
Looking forward to the new season, Newcastle are my tip for the dark horse team. |

The new season will have a cup competition for Championship ( second tier ) sides from England and club sides from the other home nations and Ireland. It will be very competitive and it will be fascinating to see how this pans out. In particular, it will be interesting to see how the Irish clubs compete against the English and to see the relative depth of talent in those nations. |

OK, the title is slightly misleading, but I suspect you knew this was about Union before you looked. Most of us Union fans do not have a hatred of League , far from it, I just prefer Union.

I'm Welsh and brought up on RU but I've been an RL fan since the London Crusaders days.
I love both codes, therefore I get rugby all year round. I have no argument about which is 'the best'. I'll defend either code to someone having a pop. I've seen some absolutely great games of both codes and I've seen some seriously dire games of both codes. I'm happy. |

er.... sorry didn't realise I needed to be that specific
I thought the season reference would have been a bit of clue though, as RL season is just a single calendar year (I think) I've no objections to RL being mentioned, then it will be a truly all purpose thread peace and love

I couldn't give a monkeys about the Guinness Premiership, although I respect others here who do.
I'm hoping for wins for London Welsh, Ospreys and Harlequins RL this weekend. |

I am also hoping for an Ospreys win...shame it's not on TV
(that I know of).reading between the lines I don't think any Magners league matches can be shown this season, due to Setanta contract (despite them collapsing in UK) |

Time Rugby
reading between the lines I don't think any Magners league matches can be shown this season, due to Setanta contract (despite them collapsing in UK) Just been taking a quick scan of the fixtures on the Magners League website and it seems that there is no TV coverage at all for Welsh teams v Connacht. Bit of a shame, but plenty of coverage for the Ospreys between now and Christmas. Nothing compares to being at the game in person though, I just hope I'll be able to go to as many home fixtures as possible! |

I'll be home a few times over the next season to see the Ospreys Vs Tigers at Welford Road....
![]() I'm all for the Guinness Premiership and the Heineken Cup... also the EDF. Its odd, I am a Tigers girl..... but in the 6 nations I support the Welsh. |

We ( HKR ) are going to get 3rd which is our best league finish in 25 years.
Last nights Saints V Leeds game was the match of the season. Superb. Couple of cracking brawls always helps too

28-12 now. Huddersfield are probably gonna beat Celtic though. Fantastic try-saving tackle from Kris Welham... oops, only held them out for a few tackles.

well yesterday was fun, even more so with Quins taking on the role of panto villians
![]() I was surprised at how iffy London Irish looked yesterday and didn't expect them to lose to Sarries. then onto the real entertainment of the day. Wasps didn't get off to the bests of starts, it kinda looked like Quins were going to channel all the negative media coverage into a decent performance. Thankfully our numeric advantage paid in the end and we ran out (slightly) comfortable winners not sure what George Robson thinking with his headbutt, perhaps he wanted see what real blood looked like

Harlequins RL were nilled today as well. They had a great start to the season, up to 4th at one point, they just have trouble maintaining consistency.

I'm hoping for wins for London Welsh, Ospreys and Harlequins RL this weekend. Bristol 28 - 23 London Welsh Connacht 12 - 19 Ospreys Quins RL 0 - 48 Castleford An honorary mention to Esher, another team I've seen many times. They just managed to nick a result up at Manchester. Manchester 0 - 148 Esher. 23 tries! |
