Lazy in attack - asleep in defence.

And BBC - PLEASE lose Eddie Butler

Hard to believe that for all the possession France had at the end, they could not score any points.
Eddie is rather annoying now, seems to delight in making sniping comments at Moore's reasonable observations.

I think that would be about the worst thing you could hope for.

If England beat France it will be harder for the Welsh, because nothing makes the French better than being hopless and fearless.

Well, first of all , we English rugby types to not refer to the French as " Frogs".

We just call them dirty French bastards.

Seriously , I was very much impressed by the kicking from hand by Francois Trinh- Duc. Why other home nations players are incapable of kicking towards the corners as he does , rather than a hopeless punt directly into the hands of the opposition is beyond me. It surely is not that difficult.

It appears to be a tactical thing to *not* kick for the corners these days, presumably because the lineouts are no longer properly contested. If you kick infield and get your back row on top of the catcher then there is a better chance of getting turnover. Perhaps a modern coach on here can explain it better?

For up and unders yes, fair enough. But why just punt the ball back to th opposition with no hope of contesting it Get it to the corners and even if the line out goes against you the ball will still be in the oppos 22. Line outs in any case are not always won by the thrower in , probably 2 out of 5 are lost

The main theory behind it is to isolate the catcher and hope to get a turnover or a penalty. Saracens have it as their major gameplan it is a bit like the rugby version of the long ball stategy.

Refs play a big part in it, if a referee is quick to ping players for holding on then it is worth kicking and hoping you can get up quickly.

Wales now use it a lot as they have a quick line speed.

If you have a good defence it is a good way to play territory but it isn't very exciting.

My point is that the kicking is so bad. You cannot isolate a player if he is able to catch a ball with no-one within 20 metres of him. Most of the kicking just hands the ball back to the opposition with no hope of tackling him. Trinh-Duc actually made the opposition run for the ball or at least try to pick it up on the bounce

Makes no difference in the grand scheme of things - now that France are a point down on us, if we beat Italy and England beat France, we have a three point advantage over them going into the final weekend.

Assuming we beat Italy, England beat France and Ireland beat Scotland:

W P4 W4 D0 L0 P8
E P4 W3 D0 L1 P6
F P4 W2 D1 L1 P5
I P4 W2 D1 L1 P5
S P4 W0 D0 L4 P0
It P4 W0 D0 L4 P0

I then expect Ireland to beat England, and even if France beat us, they'd be on 7 pts, not enough to beat us.

If however France beat England, then it really is winner takes all at Cardiff in a fortnight.

It all plays into the hands of Wales as Ireland a France have to play 4 weeks on the bounce. Which is tough with the physicality of the Encounters.

I see Danny Care has been a complete idiot yet again - will he ever learn his lesson or is he (literally) p***ing his career up the wall?

To be the best you have to beat the best; Wales have the Championship in their own hands now and it's pretty much Grand Slam or bust. The last thing any of the Welsh team want is to have to repeat what happened at Twickenham in 1994 when Ieuan Evans collected the 5 Nations trophy after losing against England; the look on his face told the whole story.

Wales should be looking to beat Italy and France and make all other the other results irrelevant and if they want to be taken seriously as a good side then that's the attitude they must have. It's the attitude that the All Blacks, South Africa, Australia, England pre-2004 and France (when they can be bothered) would have.

Absolutely, and of course I am rooting for the GS. But we must also be realistic and examine the possibility of winning the pot with a 80% record.

My feeling for today was underestimate Italy at our peril

Up to the Jamie Roberts try, their defence has been pretty good

My only quarrel is this referee is a bit whistle happy and not letting the game flow too much

Only if you believe our media. Italy are always a challenge to overcome up front for Wales. Important for us to have a real challenge from Italy today and not get over confident before facing France.

Quite a bit of cynical play from both sides though , he's got to have both sets of players contributing to a free flowing game.

I bet France are terrified.....

Wales were awful Preistland in particular. Dithered over every decision. Stop their bi runners don't commit to the breakdown. Dusitoir will love it.

Well done to Wales ......

The Championship will all be decided, one way or the other, by the time England and Ireland take the field next week!!

Surely the BBC main team will be in Cardiff? Probably not.
