Watched the England v Australia game. Two poor teams really. England are rubbish. NZ should be able to score 30 points v them.

Watched the England v NZ RL match later on and that was a far more enjoyable game to watch. Have to say am surprised with England's performance. I thought they woukd get beat but they played well. Eastman is a future star!!

Ok

I posted how frustraited i was by the cheating from the all blacks but some of the things the Welsh fans are saying are so one eyed.

Wales, I thought, had a great opportunity to beat the All Blacks and it was a game I was more excited about than my own England team. However they failed quite badly really. I don't think New Zealand were ever under any pressure and I was quite disapointed by it. New Zealand snuffed out the danger of Roberts and Shanklin quite comprehensively and the talk of a makeshift front row is quite frankly nonsense you were missing Adam Jones from your first choice front row and that was it. Yes he is good but that didn't make that much difference.

The key to the game was Dan Carters control of the tempo and his use of the boot when neccessery. It was a man of the match performance and was righly awarded such.
Yes he made a high tackle and has now been cited. That doesnt take away the fact he was man of the match, quite easily.

In the National League, Manchester showing signs of improvement , only losing by 59 points.

As for Dan Carter being given man of the match by Brian Moore , I do think this was a stupid award. It did look like a very bad tackle and Moore was fully aware of this. I hope he didn't do it to try to be controversial and wind up Wales fans.”

I've never seen Brian Moore as a wind up merchant to be honest , one of the few commentators I enjoy listening to for his honesty. If we take the high tackle out of the equation then Carter was a good choice for MOTM. Richie Mcaw would've pushed him close and it's dissapointing our players couldn't match or surpass those two on the day.
I think we do have a mental block when playing New Zealand and South Africa too but that's not all about the preparation beforehand. It's how they manage the game that is to be admired. They are that much quicker , more aggressive and bend the laws of the tackle area as far as they can. It's something the whole of the NH teams need to learn a lot from. We can match these guys for gym and training work nowadays but they still have the greater rugby brains out on the pitch. Apart from a couple of years under Woodward for England , NH teams have been handed lessons by their Southern counterparts for most of my rugby playing and watching life.

There's the play offs at the end of the season. Finishing top means nothing.

I reckon for the first time, Exeter will top the Championship, only to not go up and have to play off for it.

Is the main reason just that the SH players play in a more demanding domestic competition. I'm more of a league follower and the difference between Super league and the NRL is quite huge. The NRL is so much more intense.

Not really. I'd say the SH refereeing is more lax in certain ball winning areas of the game.

Thanks to my travels , i've been to both Super 14 (or 12 as it was then) and Heineken Cup matches. Intensity wise , I think it is still greater down south. You do make a valid point about the referees however , they tend to penalise less offences in the scrum in the SH and the tackle or "collision" (which is the lates coaching buzzword for it) is open to any number of interpretations from refs in the North let alone the other hemisphere.

Don't the UK clubs usually end up winning the world club challenge matches against the NRL team though? Best rugby league I've seen is the annual State Of Origin series down under.

They do but there are a few contributory factors

1 - its in England

2 - its the start of our season so any players who play both NRL and SL will be playing for the SL side.

I agree. The greatest games of RL you will see are the State of Origin matches. Amazing games and so much passion.

The world club challenge thing is a 1 off game though and not really a good indicator.

In 1997 you had the 22 club thing where there was 10 Australian sides and 12 Superleague sides going against ech other. The Superleague sides took a hammering v the Aussie sides that year. I remember there being some real beatings. 40 points plus

I fully accept what you say about Brian Moore. I have a great respect for him as a commentator and as a writer. He had obviously picked Carter as MoM before the high tackle and stuck to his guns.

Moore has constructive criticism for the England set up, which is more than be said for others. I would hate the day when RU pundits copied ther counterparts on football and said we were the greatest nation on earth and had the greatest players.

England, and all the Home Nations, are up against very strong teams every time they play. Contrast this to football where we play one of the top teams in the world in a competitive game once every four years and always lose.

State Of Origin games are nuts, in the nicest sense! Many of those players view getting an Origin jersey as a higher honour than playing for their country. Shame they are not on TV over here any more?

Stephen Jones regularly empties his seminal vesicle over England players. The latest is Courtney Lawes, who has probably replaced Dylan Hartley as his love-in. He's another Jonny-jizzlobber.

ESPN should have it this year. They showed the NRL grand Final so I think the state of origin game will be on. ESPN or Sky will get it.

not removed from BBC, just removed from the list of events that have to be shown on terrestrial television

BBC/ITV/Channel 4 or Five can all bid for the Challenge Cup, but it's up to the sporting bodies to accept whichever bid they want

personally I'd have like to have seen Lions series highlights added to the list, as I couldn't see how it would have impacted on Sky's live rights deal

The BBC don't do RL coverage justice. Sky show it so much better. Who knows by 2017 the BBC may have a dedicated sports channel or Sky may show it on FTA on Sky 3

Not the first time Haskell and Doran-Jones have teamed up iot would seem.

If Wales can't win at a canter against a scratch Samoan side then they've got problems for the Six Nations.

Held on at the end for a 17-13 win. Maybe we should be hammering Samoa but that takes a lot of credit away from them. Our attacking play has been awful lately , zero composure when we break the line both against NZ and Samoa tonight. A set of half backs playing together for the first time and a pair of centres with zero creativity between them were at the core of our problems tonight.
