Enjoyable weekend in both codes for me - Good performance by Gloucester to start the season off.

Shame to see Leigh relegated yesterday though, hope they bounce back

Well, just one out of three for me this weekend

Bristol 28 - 23 London Welsh
Connacht 12 - 19 Ospreys
Quins RL 0 - 48 Castleford

An honorary mention to Esher, another team I've seen many times. They just managed to nick a result up at Manchester.

Manchester 0 - 148 Esher.

23 tries!
Jesus! how can that happen at that level of Rugby!!

I am looking forward to Wembly this weekend. They keep saying Sarries are expecting a big crowd?? cant see it happening myself.

Also booked a trip to Toulon in october to watch the Saracens v Toloun game. Hoping to see wilkinson play, he seems to be doing ok at the moment.

I am gutted to see Leigh go down too, sad news.

Mixed feelings for Hull Kingston Rovers fans. We are in 3rd at the moment and a win at the weekend means we are safe in that spot and will play Saints ( who we have beaten home and away this year ). BUT, Sky have changed it from Sunday to Saturday which means i cannot go.

It's gobsmacking. I guess Esher must've scored from every time Manchester kicked off to them. 71-0 at half time apparently.

Manchester are operating on a shoestring and have local amateur lads playing for them. Esher are likely to be nigh on fully pro, after a few seasons in the 2nd tier.

Thanks Darren and Arthur, we,ll bounce back hopefully , been a great season , we missed out on a playoff place by 5points and still go down, a good league this season

Sky change matches and there's not much anybody can do , if they say play at 3am they would , Hope Hull KR do well

Hope so, hope the crowds are good next season, it seems everything is in place there for a bright future

Shame when it gets to this stage that all the games that matter couldn't kick off at the same time, but as you say Sky is a great pay master
Hope you can find a telly Darren

Thanks for that article...very interesting!

Just been taking a quick scan of the fixtures on the Magners League website and it seems that there is no TV coverage at all for Welsh teams v Connacht. Bit of a shame, but plenty of coverage for the Ospreys between now and Christmas.

Nothing compares to being at the game in person though, I just hope I'll be able to go to as many home fixtures as possible!
I listened to the second half online via GalwaybayFM. The commentator was more squeaky than Jonathan Davies and more excited than a horse race commentator. They even mistook Jerry Collins firstly for Ian Gough, then Huw Bennet but it was better than no coverage at all. Oh and the Ospreys won and Cardiff Blues lost....happy days indeed.

I'll be home a few times over the next season to see the Ospreys Vs Tigers at Welford Road....

I'm all for the Guinness Premiership and the Heineken Cup... also the EDF.

Its odd, I am a Tigers girl..... but in the 6 nations I support the Welsh.
Louise-ann, it will be a fantastic EDF and Heineken campagin with the two clubs the Ospreys and Leicester in the same groups.

has anybody got the Lions Match Highlights DVD yet?

I've got an order in from Play.com but it's not been dispatched yet. I went to HMV at lunchtime and they don't seem to have any in stock

whilst I'd love to think it's been so successful it's sold out, I think the reason is that Lace haven't sent the product to retailers yet

unless somebody actually managed to buy a copy today

Leigh are still apparently still targeting a Super League franchise for 2012, despite the relegation, and Robbie Paul has stated his intentions to honour his contract despite them playing in the third tier of UK rugby league.

It looks like the WRU and the regions have reached an agreement tonight and will not be going to court on Wednesday.

Ian Millward , Robbie and Ricky Bibey are still coming , part of the itinerary is to be in a grand final or Northern rail cup final which could be a problem

Not sure on how Wakefield , Castleford or Salfords new stadium plans are going but i heard Salford snatched Warringtons hand off for the £200,000 they offered for Ritchie Myler and that it would go towards the new stadium

No offence to the guy (he is Huge), but Ricky Bibey isn't a player to be shouting about.

I remember seeing Manchester a few years ago and they were flying quite high. I find that quite scary though that you can have a mismatch of such epic proportions at the
3rd tier of English rugby is ridiculous. I hope they sort this out.

I think he did until he got quite a battering

He was playing for the vets, until someone stamped on his head a year or so ago. He may still turn out for them.

On the times I've been to Esher, I've seen him there occasionally on a social basis.

To tie up the two codes, Esher winger Dougie Flockhart has played RL for Scotland.

No chance unless you win it in 2011 and I doubt that.

BBC Rugby U

BBC Football

there needs to be some sort of consistency across sports

how can it be that Kenny is found guilty of taking a ban substance and yet get the same length of time a refused (a la Bath trio and Rio Ferdinand)

it makes Matt Stevens ban look even more excessive, granted it was an "in competition" drugs test

Maybe there should be an independant board that should look at things like this and decide the outcome, thus freeing the individual sport's governing body of potential accusations of bias

Just a thought

Anyone here follow any teams in the National Conference League? I wonder if they get increased attendances when the regular SL season has ended. Some great names in there. Hull Dockers always conjours up an image shall we say
