OK , I know he was suspended for telling porkies last year but Basteroud is becoming one of my favourite International players. France pack look right up for this but Scotland are still in it.

Seems a bit of a poor surface. Lucky not to concede a penalty try just now.

Eh? Great to see a side so comfortable with ball in hand, off loading supporting etc
Couldn't help thinking England would have gone for the drop goal in those last 2 mins

Can we campaign to the BBC against Jonothan Davies constant whining and winging and moaning and telling everyone what to do.

JUST COMMENTATE ON THE GAME why dont you.

Bill Mac will be spinning.

this is probably a silly question that has been asked before. But despite the title is it pretty much just a rugby union thread or does league get talked about as well?

I'm thinking as someone who was born in Edinburgh, not Marseilles or Paris.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Odd that there were no tries in the second half especially given the amount of possession France had.

Ah, you tease!

I have a feeling that we're heading for a season of Caledonian rugby gloom. Still, we're used to it, I suppose.

Welcome to another year of unmitigated failure in the 6N.

Are Scotland even considered a serious rugby nation any more? 10 years since out last title, and the most we've had to cheer about in the interim are a few lucky wins against poor English and French sides. No progress, no hope of progress, no plan to improve rugby in Scotland, no leadership from the corrupt and morally bankrupt SRU - nothing.

Same old players making the same old mistakes and trotting out the same old excuses. And the most depressing thing is that we've got such a small player base that there's no-one to replace them. Although I'd drop a few of the perennial under-achievers anyway, just for some fresh blood in the side.

As for the Evans brothers - F off back to England, you turncoat scum. Odd how they discovered their "Scottishness" at exactly the same time as they realised they weren't good enough for England. They're every bit as bad as the kilted Kiwis and Och-Aye Aussies of a few years ago. At least if we had 15 real Scots in the team then they'd go down fighting, instead of surrendering miserably in the opening quarter of the match.

I thought the Evens brothers were amoung your best on the pitch today. Your 8 was one of the best players on the pitch.

Could someone give me a few more details of the Evans brothers. I had assumed they were genuine Scots. Who did they used to play for?

I assume it is OK for Scottish players to come from Northampton as so many have, and I appreciate there is a sizable Scottish population in that area.

Not the best weekend for me rugby-wise.

Wales. Lost.
Harlequins RL. Absolutely steamrollered.

Even London Welsh only drew.

Like who? Please don't confuse Northampton with Corby.

The particular player I was thinking about was Budge Poutney, who had no connection with Scotland , having been born in the Channel Islands.

Others , who probably were genuine Scots , include Gregor Townsend,Sean Lamont, Euan Murray, and Tom Smith.

And , yes I was confusing Corby with Northampton , apologies.

The Evans brothers seem to have been educated in England but played all their professional rugby north of the border.

okay so you got off to a bad start, but you were missing a world class player in Euan Murray.

even though England ran out winners against Wales, I'm not convinced we're over the worst of our troubles, so Scotland can still come good

I've a feeling there won't be a grand slam this year, with the winner of 6N having at least one defeat

anyway bring on the Italian whipping boys....... famous last words
