I haven't had ANYTHING from Humax and I have an HDR and a Foxsat, how come I don't get invited!!??

Since I got Gmail I've changed ISP 3 times & all my mail is still there.

I'm in the same situation, and would like to know how I can get invited to participate with these surveys. If it is not to win a price, at least I can express my opinion/experience for having the Foxsat HDR for almost a year now. Do I need to email someone?

It may come down to how you bought.
Living out of UK I mail ordered an HDR so gave my address for delivery, & email for order progress.
Since then I've been emailed, ostensibly, by a Humax director & even the CEO.
They were updates & sales pitches with a sender title that was suppose to entice me read them, I presume.

The survey questions gave little scope to praise or gripe.

There was a comment box at the end. Some folk will have gone to town! I just regard it as a bit of new kit that would probably have a few bugs. & it has but it does a job largely as it "said on the tin".

It wanted to know how I used it & my favourite channels. The Boy Murdoch would have been unamused, with my 5!
I reckon those who do new things like blackcow's USB tricks & others who seem to subcontract for NASA will prosper.

It didn't like my French address so I started again with the UK address I'll be at in 2 weeks.

I bought mine from two seperate retailers, one from where I work (the Foxsat) and one from another retailer (long story!!)(The HDR) but dont remember any surveys or registration docs in either box.

My HDR seems better now that I've improved the signal a bit and I haven't tried to watch ITV HD (The Bill mainly) whilst it's being recorded as it seemed to be this that was confusing it, I just started watching New Tricks whilst The Bill recorded then watched The Bill afterwards. (Dont know what I'll do now as New Tricks is now repeats I think from this week so wont be watching it!!)

I'd just like to have been given the chance to put my name down for these surveys and the iPlayer Beta test.

Anyway, as you say, I'll just keep watching the boxes and get what I'm given.

I have also been invited to the survey and have submitted my stage 1 reply, so we'll see what happens in the next 3 months.

could someone otherwise post a link to the survey, assuming the link is not already linked to an email address/invite. Sometimes the surveys are generic, with the need to add your email address at the end, in which case almost everyone could participate.

Call me scynical, but does this not make the survey malipulatable?

I.e: If they only select certain people to survey, they could select, say people where they know Freeview coverage is low and so the majority of people completing the survey only have access to Satellitte based systems and so would be biased anyway?

I beleive a survey should encourage as many people from as many walks of life, income, location, and every other factor possible to gain a true reflection of what the majority of people think.

I have on a few occasions e-mailed Humax to try and join in, I have currently three of their products which I am now impressed with having ironed out the original installation (turned out to be!!) problems with the HDR, and have previously owned a 5400 some years ago. Where I live I have a good broadband speed and access to satellite, cable, and strong Freeview coverage, and I am on a modest income but work in retail sales and have a strong interest in this kind of thing.

Over the years I've subscribed to just about every offering I can from full Sky to Cable VIP, to more modest packages dependant on income and requirements at the time.

I would have thought they would have jumped down my throat for input, but I keep getting blanked or refused and ahve not been given the opportunity to apply for the iPlayer trial, let alone be refused or accepted.

I am not impressed with the way they've closed this trial now, again, I would have thought the more input, positive or negative, the better; nor am I impressed with the way they seem to do this kind of thing.

Anyway, that's my view, for what it's worth, I dont suppose I'll get a reply from them and they'll probably now send a signal to make all my boxes mess up and not record!!

Surely any survey carried out by a non independent party is subject to biased findings, so we will just have to trust them on this one.

What would Humax have to gain by customer selection? They might just as well put down what they want to in the first place.

I didn't get asked by Freesat to partake in the i-player survey, but I'm not crying foul about it.

btw, it's a Freesat survey - not a Humax one.
I filled in the form & snail-mailed it (form came in the HDR box when I bought it last November).

The daily viewing log is about what you watch on Freesat.
Then at the end of the week there is an additional survey with a few questions about how you use Freesat (sole or additional source, etc), what you like about it, and suggestions for improvement, along with some special questions, which this month was about paying for content - eg: Sky Sports/Movies.

Yes, I was talking about the Humax one, which I understood is the one that led people to have the possibility of trialling the iPlayer.

I didn't know there was a seperate Freesat one.

I dont remember having any surveys in any of the boxes i bought, but maybe I missed them thinking they were warranty cards or something. I shall examine the boxes the boxes (!) came in and report back.

Sorry if I sounded bitter about not having the opportunity to participate in the iPlayer thing, but to be given the opportunity to apply would have been nice; if I am THEN not selected well that is fair enough.

My previous post was about surveys and why a company would not want as much data as possible? I suppose it could be argued that if only people of certain groups reply then the survey may be biased that way so I suppose there may be some arguement for selective surveying.

Humax - sent a "how do you use tv and media in your house" survey with prize of a free hdr if they invite you to a mysterious second phase. Nothing to do with iplayer trial we think.

Freesat - sent a fairly similar survey to humax with the promise of including people in a freesat trial in September.

There is a Humax consumer survey independent of Freesat, we have used collected email addresses of people who have expressed an interest in Freesat products through our website.

In this research Humax are not looking for experts, we want the average person with average experience in an average household with average lifestyles. Knowing there is no such thing as average we have made some decisions to sample different demographics in the second stage for further study. The sampling will be essentially through some biased selection of demographic clusters (but no selection preference towards individuals).

Humax haven't exposed a direct link because we wanted to make reduce the amount of bias towards skilled/experienced/enthusiastic individuals in the results. Some might assume Humax would want skilled people to tell us how to do things and while we do appreciate feedback that is not the function of this survey.

Taking the interest on board however, it might be worth Humax considering another longer term survey, without so much personal detail but with more opportunity to feedback.

Looks like you were talking about the Humax survey... but the iPlayer trial is a followup to the Freesat survey.
My emails came from "The Freesat team" (...@freesat.co.uk).
Note that they are now fully subscribed.

I've given up with the Humax, got my Sky HD back on and only use the HDR for ITV HD recording now, gone down to single feed too as the other one is now better utilised elsewhere.

If they'd got the bugs fixed I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Seeing all the posts re the Humax survey rang a bell! Yes I found (on my google mail) that I had been invited to complete the survey last month. It now seems that it is all too late a the link said "Thank you for responding to the first Humax consumer survey. Unfortunately the period of collection has now been completed and we are now analysing the responses.
