Humax Foxsat - New user dumb questions
dransfield
03-09-2009
I'm new to satellite. I've just moved to an area with no freeview reception, so my much loved Humax Freeview PVR has been replaced with a HUMAX FOXSAT.

My landlord arranged for a dish to be installed (twin LNB) a couple of weeks ago, and the nice installer man lent me a Sky box until I my Foxsat arrived, which itdid today, and its all working nicely.

But I've got a couple of dumb questions:-
1) On my Freeview box when I pressd the GUIDE button I used to get the guide straight up, but on the FOXSAT I'm first presented with a "GENRE" list (like on the Sky box), and I have to press "OK" to go into the (default, top option in list) "0 All Channels" option. Its annoying, but I can't see anyone else being having mentioned this on this forum, so I'm assuming its easy to remove this "GENRE" stage?

2) There's a lot less channels than on the Skybox. One that comes to mind as missing that my daughter likes is "Horse & Country". Is this something to do with it being FTA rather than Freesat, and I have to do a Manual Search for it?

3) Is there any way I can get French language channels? (To improve my lingo).

Thanks in advance.

There's an option in the menu settings to remove the Genre screen.

Yes - you have to switch the box into non-freesat mode and do a manual tune/search.

I don't think there are any French channels at 28.2E, which is where your dish is pointing to get the UK channels. I'm not sure which satellites carry the French channels, however to receive them you would either need a second dish, a motorised dish, or a second LNB on your existing dish.

Hi Chris,
Try Euronews Channel 204.
Touch the button in the 3rd bottom row 2nd from left, it has a loudspeaker symbol & a"?" mark.
It lets you choose English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian & Arabic!

After you are proficient in those come back & we'll look for some more options!

My French is patchy but I learned a lot from language CDs by the late Michel Thomas.
He did at least Eng, French, German & Spanish in pairs.
He was a POW amongst people of many nations & developed his conversational system, that is quite good.

Pressing guide on the hdr downloads a new epg from scratch. You can instantly display the buffered epg by pressing schedule and then red
